COMPLEX OVARIAN CYST

In SEPTEMBER/09 I had MRI of the pelvis with pre and post Gadolinium.I received already result which confirms a complex cystic lesion with enhancing septation in the region of the left ovary measuring 6.6 x3.7 x 6.0 cm .My GYN suggested LAPAROSCOPY/LAPAROTOMY .I know that in future I have to sign consent for surgery but I am not ready for it psychologically.I am 50 year old .To tell you the truth I am scared therefore I postponed my decision.I am aware that I have strong possibility of having ovarian cancer because of:1)Age 50 - pre- menopausal)Genetic factor (my aunt-ovarian cancer) 3)I never was pregnant 4)I had lumpectomy Lt breast 1989 (cancer of breast runs in my family-aunt).In 1985 my DOCTORS suspected PLASMOCYTOMA/ MULTIPLE MYELOMA ( BENCE JONES protein was positive only once, Leukopenia,Polyclonal gammopathia present  but not Monoclonal, trombocytopenia). To make my story short my DOCTORS were confused by my results. Finally MYELOGRAM was done -result negative. My question :Is it possible to have changes in my ovary r/t plasmocytoma solitary?.What kind of tests must be done to r/o possibility? Is it LAPAROSCOPY?--KIKA17

Hello;THANK YOU for your comments.YOU must be very busy answearing our questions and helping us with your advice.THANK YOU again for that.Trudie I was reading most of your comments and others.Of course we take advantage of your experience and others.I personally think that it helps us in preparing mentally for surgery ,treatment  etc. Sometimes I wish to find another message like "It is just ovarian cyst not big deal.Don't bother your DOCTORS". I remember joke about  patient  who constantly visited Doctor's office .One day when she came again her Doctor  said : Mrs X I didn't see you for a long time WHY?.She responded: Because I was sick. ( Just for fun! ) .                                             PS.I am sorry for my mistakes  in writing but this is my second language .                            Sincerely - KIKA17

They will usually start with a laporascopic surgery but if they suspect cancer they will move to a laporatomy so they can ensure they don't have any leakage of cells from the cyst and ovary.  I would really encourage you to go ahead with the surgery.  Time is of the essence in case of anything suspicious.
