Left ovary pain

Over the years I have had problems with shooting pain which feels like it is coming from my left ovary. It doesn't come often, however, when it does it is quite uncomfortalbe. For the last (2) days, I have had shooting pains in this area enough to make me feel I have to get on the internet to try and find out the reason. I am 45 years old, I have not had a period since the end of May this year. I believe I am going through the start of menopause do to the other symptoms I have been having also. My tubes were tied at the age of 28. This is not an ongoing problem, it seems to just come and go at times. Most people I have talked to regarding this seem to think I am ovulating at this time, however, it is always and only the left side. Just curious if this is a normal thing or something I should have to worry about.

Hi,
I agree. A trip to the gyno is needed. I have had pain on my left side now on and off for a few weeks. I went in and had an ultrasound done and it showed a cyst on my left ovary. I wasn't too concerned as it was a functional cyst or a fluid filled cyst which are normal for most women. I waited 6 weeks and had a follow up ultrasound done. Now there is a complex cyst (part fluid and part tissue) so I am a little bit more concerned and am in the process of trying to see if I should wait another cycle or have a laparoscopy of the ovary. But you should at least have a ultrasound to see your ovaries. Good luck.

Hi There,
It is really difficult to self diagnose. We have all done it, take it from me, you are better off making an appt with your gyn. They can actually do blood tests and check if in fact you are perimenopausal. They can also tall you what is going on. I know it is no fun guessing and certainly is no fun being in pain. Take care and keep us posted

I'm sure this is what you know already, but if you can, go to a gyn to be checked out. If you have had pains before you might have had cysts in the past, but if this feels different than you should get it checked out. most cysts are not too much to worry about (apart form the pain) but better safe than sorry.

Best wishes and keep us updated.
