Not sure what to do?

by jamimomof3, Oct 29, 2009 07:44PM
I went to the doctor today and they put me on birth control pills to try and shrink my 7.5 cm cyst.  I am not sure i have much faith in the doc... He says my cyst is a simple cyst inside my ovary....the medical report from the er said it was a non-simple cyst encompassing my left ovary.   SO who is right?  I dont even believe he had enough time to look at the ultrasound disc i gave the nurse he was in the room like three minutes later.  He says he would not opt for surgery first because of my severe pelvic adhesion problem, but i am in serious pain.. the pain pills dont help they just make me sick at my stomach and dizzy.  I dont have insurance, i think that may be part of the issue.  Doc says wait three months and get a follow up ultrasound, he does want me to get the blood work to check for cancer markers though...should I seek a second opinon?

Wow, that's both confusing and discouraging at the same time.  And who do you believe, that is the question.
7.5 cm = 3 inches.  That's big enough to be painful.

What are you taking for pain?  How well do you tolerate Ibuprofen (Advil)?  That works fairly well for many people, just don't take more than the label dosage.

I don't know what to say other than to follow what the doctor has said so far (BC and CA-125 blood test).  Allowing the cyst to resolve is much more affordable than surgery.  If the CA-125 comes back in the normal range, it should be good news for the watch and wait approach.

Besides pain, do you feel any other noticeable (or vague) symptoms?

If you really don't trust this doctor, certainly another opinion is worthwhile.

Thanks, they gave me loratab 5.  I would much more prefer to take advil.  Not a big fan of pain pills in the first place.  Nausea and Dizziness sometimes which the pain med only made worse.  I also dont like taking birth control pills because my family has a history of blod clots and back in march one of the blood tests for my clotting factor came back really high.   I forgot to tell the dr but called back to ask about that they are suppose to call me tomarrow.  I am also worried about this thing popping, back when I first started having trouble with cyst I was 16 when those small sized pop it was enough to drop me to my knees.... And having a 3 year old and 8 month old I do lots of lifting and activity.  Also a little nervous because have a big family history with cancer.  Every kind of cancer you can think of....
