Help!!

Hi.. I am a 36 year old with three kids, had a tubal and gallbladder removal in 2001.  Over the last 5 years I have many changes in my menstrual cycle (clotty, heavier, crampier) sometimes I feel like my insides would fall out with the flow.. Then I would have two-three days of 'normal feeling' then this terrible cycle would start.. low , dull crampy feeling on left pelvic region, gassy, bloated, increasing crampy through ovulation, increasing bloating, gas etc. Visited a GYN in 2005 said 'all A-ok' did a Vag U/s and everything..  Last year.. Painfully aware of time of ovulation, weeks leading up to menstration uncomfortable.. twinges in ovary area (Left) and a serious pulling sensation pain and dull backaches , bloat, passing gas frequently ..

Visited a GYN again 3 weeks ago.. Pelvic exam was unremarkable, Pap 'normal' - Sent to get new Vag U/S .. Tech told me I had a Cyst that I should call and follow up with Dr.. Next day , Dr. Called said Cyst was suspicious was both solid and fluid and on left ovary. The cyst was also irregular . Said we could watch and wait but felt that this has been 'part' of the problem long enough and we'd only be delaying surgery.  I am having surgery next week to remove the cyst and the left ovary. Tomorrow I get the CA-125 blood test..

Should I be worried..Dr. didn't say cancer or anything.. just that she felt it was 'suspicious' and should come out along with the ovary.. I agreed. the whole monthly cycle is disabling from two days post mestrual until the end of the period . I always feel pain on the left side during Ovulation and copious CM so I know I when I am ovulating.. She said the RT Ovary looked totally normal..

What Questions should I be asking? What else should I be looking for?  She didn't sound like there was any major urgency to getting it out other than to relieve my symptoms but she felt it needed to be looked at.

Thanks in advance!!!

Hi,
I agree with sandy  that a gyn oncologist should be available if  anything looks suspicious, they have 3 years extra training and if any cancer was seen during your surgery they are the experts. Try not to worry too much though  because 95% of cysts turn out to be benign. Hope everything turns out well for you .

Best wishes Angie

Hi,
Just wondering ..Will your gyn. be doing the surgery or will they have a gyn/oncologist on call ?? Not that I think you have cancer, but it has been said that if anything "looks suspicious" that a Gyn/Oncologist has the most experience in that area.
Also regarding the CA-125-- Unfortunately that test isn't that reliable for women in their pre menopausal years. So many different things can elevate the results, but the Drs. order it since it's better than nothing I understand..
Sounds like you have a Dr. that at least realizes the importance of investigating suspicious findings.. You'd be surprised at how many don't !! Good luck on your surgery and please let us know...
Take care,
Sandy
