hemmhoragic ovarian cyst

i found out about 2 weeks ago that i have a hemmhoragic ovarian cyst.  i went to urgent care with pain in my left ovary and they sent me for an ultrasound less than a week later.  they didn't tell me how big the cyst is but they said that they want me to go back in about 3-4 weeks (from the date i found out which leaves me with about another 1-2 weeks) and get another ultrasound to see if it shrinks any on its own.  i had been having all of the symptoms of the cyst for about 2-3 months before seeing the doctor but didn't think it was a big deal until the pain got so unbearable that one day i couldn't get out of bed.  they didn't give me any bc to try to help shrink it (which is good because bc pills make me very sick and have some difficult side effects).  but i was just wondering, what is next if it doesn't shrink on it's own?  will it shrink without the bc?  also, after having intercourse with my husband there was some blood on the tip of the condom on the same side as my cyst and i am not ovulating, could this mean that there is something going on with my cyst?

It can depend upon the type and size of cyst.

I was under the impression that usually first they would give or atleast try to give birth control pills because everyone i have ever known who had a cyst took birth control pills to try to help it shrink so i was a little worried that she never mentioned anything about using birth control pills and now it seems like it is just getting bigger because i am getting pain in other places all along that side of my body such as my ribs and my lower back and my hip.  i will keep everyone posted on this.  thank you.

Sometimes cysts can cause a bit of bleeding.  The course your doctor is following is quite common.  If it hasn't resolved he will likely schedule a laparoscopy to remove it which will require a 2 week recovery period.  You will be amazed how good you'll feel when this is finally gone.  Please keep us posted.
