Size for Laprotomy vs laproscopy

What is the size "limit" on laproscopy surgery.  I have a 7-10 cm dermoid and am praying to have it removed laproscopically.

I actually had two dermoids removed over the last eight years (both from right ovary... they think the second surgery might have had to be done because the first did not fully clean up the ovary/ dermoid, so it grew back). The first dermoid was 17cm and it was removed laparoscopically. It removed as an emergency surgery after I went to the ER in severe pain for ovarian tortion. Although the cyst was large, at the time doctors thought they had sucessfully removed the liquid and solid components via laparoscopic surgery. Recovery for the laparoscopic surgery was quick- they discharged me an hour after the procedure and I was feeling almost back to normal in a week and engaged in full physical activity in 3 weeks.

Sicne then, I get annual pelvic ultrasounds as follow-up to make sure everything is fine. I am now 22 years old and during my last pelvic ultrasound (2 weeks ago), they found a 10cm dermoid on the right ovary. They decided to do a laparotomy to remove it, in hopes that they could reconstruct the ovary to keep it functional. The procedure went well from a medical perspective, but it was significantly more painful and invasive than the laporoscopic surgery. Five days out of the surgery, I am still unable to move much further than the bathroom (and that is with assistance).

I think in the end, they are able to remove very large cysts laporoscopically but still choose to do laparotomies sometimes due to the circumstances. It is not so much a size limit as it is a personalized medical decision.

I have heard of some women having laporascopic surgery with cysts up to 10 cm.  I think you have a good chance.
