pelvic twinges all month long

Hi, I am 45 years old and the last few months I have been having twinges of pain around my ovaries, this starts about 6-7 days into my cycle.  This month it is on the left side, sometimes I would have this right before my period would start now it is almost anytime during the month.  Is this normal?  Are you ovaries supposed to give twinges of pain any time?  I think I am in perimenopause, since I have real bad anxiety, mood swings and my cycles are about 23-24 days apart.  I have had some of these pains before and my gyn. said it was normal.  How normal is it? It feels like a jabbing pain and is on & off for days.

Hi to all,

Thanks for your advice.  I'm going to make an appt. with my gyn.  It's almost time for my yearly anyhow.

You might even have PCOS (there is a forum for that too!) where you get small cysts that burst each month.  Best to have it checked out.

Hi,
Sounds like ovulation pain however, it usually doesn't last more than just a few days. I think I'd ask for a TVUS just to rule out any cysts. I had the same pain (although I'm no longer ovulating so for me, it wasn't "right" .. Are there any other symptoms?
In the event, they do discover a cyst, it's usually nothing to worry about in younger women (pre menopausal).. Most of the time they simply disappear on their own . You might want to check out the "Health Pages" top right of this page . All sorts of info re: cysts (just in the event that's what it is) and let us  know,
Take care,
Sandy

hi there i agree and also ...
make sure ur gynecologist does a thorough pelvic exam to feel for abnormalities of the ovaries (the pap smear DOES NOT check anything related to ur ovaries)
if u feel its necessary (and it would be worth it for the peace of mind) get a transvaginal ultrasound ... u know ur body and u know whether or not this is normal for u .. as in most things u have to be ur own advocate and go after the truth
god bless u and keep us posted
love

Go to have another check- better safe than sorry. Also - try keeping a diary of the pain so you have something to pin down- any differences , where the pain is, relating to food, bowel movements etc. This will help to build an idea of whether it is pre-menopose or not.

best wishes
