Namnam46/Sherry Surgical Update

So far so good!  :o)

As of 5:45 PM Central Daylights Saving Time Sherry's surgery was completed and she was in recovery.  

Just prior to surgery her surgeon decided he may have to perform a more complex procedure. Sherry would be in the surgical suite and possibly the recovery room a bit longer that originally planned.

Total hip joint replacement involves surgical removal of the diseased ball and socket and replacing them with a metal ball and stem inserted into the femur bone and an artificial plastic cup socket. The metallic artificial ball and stem are referred to as the "prosthesis." Upon inserting the prosthesis into the central core of the femur, it is fixed with a bony cement.

In Sherry's case they are replacing the existing artificial ball and joint as the initial hip replacement surgery was faulty.

According to my sources she did well in the actual surgery. She should be out of recovery shortly and I will update you when I have more information. Rehab may require a bit more work and her pain level may be higher with the more extensive surgery.

I know you have been anxiously awaiting an update. I know Sherry would say continued prayers are appreciated.

That's fabulous to hear ! Our Sherry deserves the very best ! I am so happy that she is getting such wonderful care .And so glad her pain is well controlled so she can focus on healing .We all miss her very much and will have to have a forum party when she returns to us I will keep her in my thoughts and prayers .Thank you Tuck .You have been so wonderful to keep everyone updated .Kudos to you !

Sherry was transferred to a brand new Rehab Facility today. She would like everyone to know that it is like a five star hotel. Furniture is beautiful in her private room. The staff is superb. She is being checked in every 20 minute or so just to see if she needs anything. They bring medications to assure pain is controlled to so everyone can do their prescribed exercises and move about as pain free as possible. When she turns on the call light it is answered in three minutes or less. She feels like a queen.

Every room has Internet access but Sherry does not have her own private computer. So we will have to wait until she returns home before we can chat with her. It looks like she is finally progressing well.  She's hoping discharge will be in 3 to 4 weeks.

She says she hopes everyone is as pain free as possible. She also wanted me to tell you all that she really appreciates all your prayers and kind words. She misses all of you.

Thanks so much for keeping us updated!  Mama Sherry is the heart of this forum with her encouraging words and wonderful posts.  I'm so glad that she's being read the posts here so she really knows how much she's loved and missed.

I hate that this happened.  But I'm glad she'll be in a wonderful rehab.  My mom had been in one that was fantastic, both the rehab staff and nursing staff were wonderful.  And I'm sure even the most cantankerous nurse would be won over by Sherry!

So, more prayers and lots of love being sent.

Tuck thank you so much for the updates about Mama Sherry .I am so glad her pain is  well controlled . She has been so brave .If positive attitudes get you anywhere Mama Sherry is going to come through this with flying colors .God bless her she is such a strong person . My thoughts and prayers are with her .She is a steel magnolia .I know she will make it through .this .Everyone on this board is behind her 100 % .We all love her so much .Send all of our prayers and well wishes her way . .

Sherry should be transferred to a Rehab Center tomorrow. It's a brand new one and she is confident that it will be a good placement for recovery.

Her pain is well controlled. She is getting great care at one of the finest facilities in her state. She loves the large menu. She sends her best to everyone. I am hoping there will be no further setbacks and she can finally begin the recovery process. She puts on a brave front but obviously she has many understandable concerns.

She loves hearing all your well wishes. Again, Thank you all so much.

Hi everyone,

I also am in close contact with Sherry so I'll make sure to pass along to her everyone's lover and concern when I talk to her tonight.  I know she's doing ok pain wise, from what she told me last night that they were keeping her very medicated.  I hadn't heard about the fracture until today because when I was talking to her last night she had to go because the dr. came in.  She seemed to be in ok spirits about the rehab place, I think because her granddaughter is so young and that Sherry takes care of her a lot, the rehab place is the best place for her to recover and to concentrate on her injury. As we all know, Sherry is very concerned about all of us, and it seems she doesn't tend to worry so much about herself, as much as her friends and family.  So, I'll be speaking to her this evening and I'll make sure to pass along everyone's concern.  Keep her in her prayers that this will be a less painful time for her now and that she startes to heal a little more quickly.
