Who's pregnant and over 35?

Just curious if anyone here is actually pregnant?  I am 41, had 2 mc's, and a little over 5 weeks pregnant the natural way.  I just don't know what to expect at my age and it appears that most everyone here is trying to get pregnant.
I am scared about another mc and genetic issues.
The only other community I found is filled with 20 something's that really aren't in the same boat, but quite nice.

Hi there!  I am not currently pregnant but am trying.  I will be 42 this month and I have a little boy who will be 1 on Sat.  Had him 1 week before my 41st birthday, also naturally conceived.  There are lots of us over 35 here who are or have had successful pregnancies in our late 30's and 40's.  Good luck and welcome!

Oh, and like you I also had a few miscarriages before my son.  The fact that you are still getting pregnant is good....just need to get that good egg!!

I am 7 weeks pregnant.  I am 35 in two weeks and having been trying for 5 years to get pregnant, found out I had a large 10cm ovarian cyst, had it drained (shouldnt have been drained because its not gone away and is now solid) and I also had dye put through my tubes, I got pregnant a month after surgery, which I found out a couple of days just before I was due to have a second surgery to remove the cyst competely, the surgery had to be cancelled.
After 5 years of trying I got pregnant with a cyst when it was the only month I didnt want to!  I have now been advised surgery will be in week 16 of my pregnancy.  Good luck with your pregnancy. x

Hi there,

I'm 40, 24 weeks along, due May 8. No trouble conceiving (thank goodness), no miscarriages (thank goodness), and amnio shows no chromosonal issues (thank goodness).  I feel very lucky. So far, so good!

Congrats on your pregnancy!

Well, I was supposed to still be pregnant right now, but my baby boy decided to join us a month early!  He was due February 9th but is now already eight days old.  Before this, I had an ectopic pregnancy in 2009 that was so emotionally traumatic for me I worried I would not want to try to get pregnant again.  But after a few months I was ready...

Wow, thank you all for responding!  I just didn't know there were so many of us out there!  Thank you all for sharing your stories.  Congratulations to the new mommies and those about to be mommies!
I have heard a lot a scary stories about being pregnant and over 40.  I am just taking it one day at a time and praying to get out of my first trimester unscathed.
My fingers are crossed and my prayers are with you all!

Remember that there are scary stories of women having babies at any age.  Things can go wrong, but you know, they rarely do.  Yes, we have a higher risk of chromosonal abnormality, but the odds are still that we won't. Actually, I know more women with children that have chromosonal issues that are in their 20/s and early 30's then I do that are my age.  And there is testing you can request if you choose (I opted for amnio, and don't regret my decision at all).  There is also an increased risk of loss, but again, lot's of women have healthy babies at our age with no problem.  My co cl, pamelabee had her children at 42 and 45.  She has never miscarried and both her children are healthy as can be.  Both naturally conceived as well.  Take it one step at a time and know that most of the time, everything is just fine.

Had 1st baby at 39, now 37 1/2 wks along w/ 2nd at 43.  Both conceived naturally, no miscarriages, and hopefully, the 2nd will be as healthy as the 1st.  Don't let the stories get to you.  Good luck!

Hello -

I'm 43, just delivered a beautiful healthy baby boy one week ago.
Had a very easy pregnancy - no issues, no diabetes, no high blood pressure.  Even though I was considered "advanced maternal age" - there were no issues.  I must have been one of the easiest patients for my OB doc.  The only issue was that the little guy was breech, thus I needed a c-sx.  Also breezed thru this and was walking the same day.
My only regret is that I was worried and anxious during the pregnancy - hoping all would go well and that the baby would be healthy.  All that worry and anxiety was for nothing.  The odds are in your favor!!
FYI:  I will try for number 2 later this year!

Congratulations Kathy and wow, and how great!  Thanks for sharing.  We keep hearing about things to worry about and forget to enjoy the moment.

Sunnie:  congratulations!  I have found this forum and the September 2011 discussion (my due month) very helpful.  Hope you find the same.
