home births

Hi ladies

I have a midwife and I can't  decide if a home birth is something  i want to do. Mostly I am afraid of the pain and labour in general. I am confident in my midwife and I have a good support team, any ladies who have done home births ? Advice?

I had a home birth with my last child and it was fantastic, I went into it with my eyes wide open, my first birth had ended in a forceps delivery, but my second had been a breeze with a 4 hr labour, so I knew I had a chance that all would be well, I had a 3 hr labour and it was great to be at home, my wee guy was Def the most settled baby of my 3. My hospital was 10 mins from my house so I knew we could transfer quickly if we needed to. My partner was nervous, but it all went well. I think i will be going to hospital for this one though as I am worried I'm pushing my luck for 3 nice easy labours in a row and I don't think my other half could handle the nerves again! Good luck with your decision and be prepared (as with all deliveries) that your plans may have to change.

This is my husband and i's third child... We plan on having a homebirth. So I have not experienced a homebirth personally.. But I do know many people that have had them and have always been told it's amuch more enjoyable experience than a hospital birth because you can control more of your birthing experience.. We are very excited.. Best of luck to you

I haven't because I'm high risk and need the nicu so am perfectly happy with a hospital and the medical approach but yesterday I was reading an interesting story on the 'what to expect' website about a homebirth that didn't go to plan (not a horror story, just about clarifying your expectations). I think the idea is great but the story might give you some idea of things to plan for and keep in mind beforehand. Good luck!

I had my first 2 babies in the hospital and my last one at home. It was amazing being at home. Being in your own bed and at home was such a different atmosphere. So relaxing. the pain is scary to think about but mine was so much faster at home. Recovery was quicker. Your body just knows what to do. Midwifes are so different than drs. They let you take your time and do it naturally according to your body.  Best experience!!!!
