its a federal regulation that u are staing in the hospital for 48h after natural delivery with no problems and 96 after c-section, nobody can send u home before this, if they sending u after 24 h u need to sign papers that it was your request, that regulation is in all states

oh just a side note...even if you dont have a bag ready, you can always have hubby run home for a minute w/ a hunny do list of what you want/need. if that is the case at least try to have a few things for baby already ready....cause dh can at least grab you something to wear or whatever. just a thought...dont stress too much over the bag for the hospital. not sure about anyone else but i really never used what i brought with me for my first 2 so with last one i just brought the basics and used the stuff the hospital provided. this one i will probably bring more electronic things (laptop, camera, cell phone) but not so much of everything else. anything the hospital wants to give me i will gladly take...lol

good luck with those who are packing a extensive bag, and go with your gut...whatever you THINK you will use whether you actually use it or not..pack it...lol

unless you KNOW that you have being induced or having a csection....you probably want to pack it around week 30-32...just to be on the save side. i am getting a few things here and there for baby, but like i said if i forget some stuff no biggie...lol
but anyhow....i will have all of mine done by week 35. but if you are in a hurry i would say 30-32...but really dont need it til 34-36 to be honest.

This list is great....I really don't think i will quite all of that b/c like many of you as long as everything goes well ( God willing) i will have only a 24 hour stay.  I hadn't even really started planning these things yet, but i will feel better using this a guide when i do pack.

I am with Claire and Mommy...How far in advance do i need to have a bag ready?

Here in WV it's 24hours for Vag. 72 for section. So I have the big 3 day stay :(

here in michigan it has been for several years....3 nights and you go home 4th day...IF you have a c-section and no complications....24hrs if vaginal and all went well.

i know from my past experience of what the hospital supplies and such, and i am fine using the hospital stuff...lol
since it is only worn for ride to hospital of the morning, i will wear home what i wore to the hospital. shampoo/conditioner/comb or brush/cell phone w/charger or calling card/outfit to bring baby home in, (they usually give you a diaper bag at hospital and they give you some diapers and such for a day or so...and if formula feeding or supplementing they will give you the small premade bottles of formula)/and that is probably all i will take with me....make sure carseat is in the car and is not more than 6 yrs old. here anyhow if it is over 5-6 yrs old it is considered expired and you can not leave the hospital with it.
hkenny happy bday for tomorrow....hope you have a wonderful day.

Gosh, I don't know...that's just the rules, I guess.  Smooth vag delivery is usually 3 days and C-Section used to be 7 days, but that was back in the day, I think maybe 4-5 days now.  Not sure on that...hoping I don't have to find out!!!!

omg krushing why do you have to stay in hospital 3 days if a smooth delivery and natural that's crazy lol i live in the states, in tennessee, and if delivery is good with no complications (vaginal delivery of course) you leave the following day, only stay 3 days for c-section or other complications.

I'm in new york and with a smooth delivery you stay 2-3 days. If it's on a weekend you leave the following monday or tuesday

I'm in Florida and you get kicked out next day with a smooth natural delivery (maybe same day if your baby is born in the morning).  You only stay 3 days if you have a c-section.

Here in the States, or at least here in Alabama with a smooth delivery you still stay at least 3 days.

See, something I forgot!  Yes, bring your own pads because the hospital pads are those big bulky kind and half of them don't even stick you just lay them in your underwear...so bring your own.  I'm adding it to my list.

k i had no idea i needed all this stuff!!  here in canada if you have a smooth delivery they send you home right away. my niece was born at 5 am and both her and her mom were discharged at 12 noon!! i guess there is no way of knowing what it will be like so better to have to much stuff than not enough. i better get packing!!

is it true we should bring pads? in case the hospital ones are to big or gross? my sil said she brought some.
