HPV - Transmitting Genital Warts on Thigh

by need_to_ask, Oct 16, 2009 04:24PM
I am a male that in 2004 was diagnosed with wart causing HPV.  I received treatment and the symptoms were cleared.  My doctor at the time said if there were no warts I could not spread the virus although recently I have read many different things related to that subject.

A few weeks ago, I noticed a small black spot on the front, inner part of my thigh in between my quad and hamstring just below my scrotum.  I thought the spot was a mole but over time I realized the mole had grown then I realized the mole had characteristics of a HPV wart  When I was treated in 2004, the warts were on my penis - this time around the wart is on my thigh.

What complicates this situation is I've been dating a girl for 8 months and she is someone I care for a great deal - we're great friends and have been for a long time.  She hasn't always been completely monagomus but since I was  expose to HPV and now have a reoccurance of the symptoms I am very afraid I have transmitted the virus to her.

My first question is, in 2004, did the doctor offer the correct advice - "I would not transmit the virus if the warts weren't present"?  Also, since the wart is on my thigh, what is the probability of the virus being spread to the woman I am with now?  When the wart has been cleared by Condylox treatment, how long should I obstain from sex?  Finally, considering I haven't had this problem in 5 years, is it possible to know whether warts will continue to appear throughout my life - in other words can I even have normal sexual relationships without discuss of my condition?

Thank you for your information.

Welcome to the STD forum.

You need to stop trying to diagnose yourself.  It is unlikely that "a small black spot on the front, inner part of my thigh" is a wart.  Assuming you are not a trained health professional, your judgment that "the mole had characteristics of a HPV wart" is not very useful.  See a health professional for accurate diagnosis.

"In 2004, did the doctor offer the correct advice - 'I would not transmit the virus if the warts weren't present'?"  Yes, that is true -- especially if the wart did not recur (in that spot) in the next couple of months after treatment.
