I have had a battery of MRI's trying to find out what is up with my health. My thyroid uptake and scan was normalNormal saline flush but the MRI for the dedicated pituitary shows it to be very large but still in the normalNormal saline flush parameter. My TSHPituitary and tsh Tsh has dropped from 1.5 to .25 and now I am being referred to a neurologist. I have all the symptoms for hyperthyroidism including a 20+ weight loss in 4 weeks...I'm 5'7" and weigh 126 lbs now, emotional lability, nausea, etc.... What on earth could be causing this and what does a very large but normalNormal saline flush pituitary mean to me? I have had a great deal of stress in the last 4 years . My husband died, my mother died, I take care of my father and just recently lost a child. Could any of this be causing the pituitary problem. I have gone to therapy, don't take any drugs, and meditate dailyDaily combo Daily multiple for men 50+ Daily multiple for women Daily multiple for women 50+ Daily multiple vitamins Daily vite Daily-vite men's formula Daily-vite weight control for stress.....any suggestions?
thank you.
If you had a pituitary problem and it produced less TSHPituitary and tsh Tsh that it should, your thyroid would produce less hormones than it should.
If your thyroid hormone production dropped, you would turn Hypo, not Hyper.
Do you know if you have had your Free T4 and Free T3 checked?
They are the thyroid hormones. If they are low, it is probably a pituitary problem. If they are high, even within normal lab range, it is probably a thyroid problem.
Your symptoms sound like hyperthyroidism. Keep in mind that TSH does not give you any symptoms. It is when your Free T4 and Free T3 fall out of balance that symptoms occur.
My entire panel was fine including T4 & T3, with the exception of the drop in the TSH. I have every symptom of hyperthyroid disease but my thyroid is fine according to the tests. Thanks for the response. This has just been such a bear to deal with and the lack of energy while being unable to relax....hyper to the max....is debillitating. I feel like I'm on an episode of House........they know what it isn't but not what it is. I see the neurologist on Monday. I can't get in to see a endocrinologist for over 2 months and my concern is that I'll lose so much weight by then that it will be a moot point.
My main concern is the weight loss and horrid headaches that plague me constantly. I was told that my pituitary is over producing thyroid hormones but they don't know why.
Again, thanks for responding.
The lab ranges for Free T4 and Free T3 are very broad. You can test "normal", and have problems. If your T4 and T3 test at the top of the range, your TSH will be low, and you will be hyper.
The pituitary gland produces many hormones. TSH is one of them. It is possible for your pituitary to be overproducing hormones, but it does not produce thyroid hormones. It is possible that your low TSH is because of your pituitary, but then your thyroid hormones would be dropping and you would become hypothyroid.
Find out if you have been given a Free T4 test and a Free T3 test. There are several T4 tests and T3 tests. The "Free" tests are the most acurate. If you are hyperthyroid, it is not because of your pituitary gland. If you were hyperthyroid because of a malfunction of your pituitary, your TSH would be very high.
