Change in surgery

I had surgery on wednesday for a total thyroidectomy due to ultrasound results of multi nodule goiters on both lobes 5 left and 4 right lobe.  They decided to remove my thyroid as I was having breathing problems as the left lobe was pushing my tracea to the side. No needle biopsy were done prior to surgery.  A blood test was doen and my thyroid was functioning normally but the nodule was growing at a fast pace.
After surgery I was informed by the registar that they only removed the left lobe. I was discharged on thursday and am at home recovering.  I don't see my surgeon till next thursday.  I was wondering how common is it for surgeons to change there minds and only do a partial instead of a total and what is the likely hood that I will have to go and have the right lobe removed in future.

I have a follow up appointment with my surgeon on 04/05, so hopefully will find out more.  It's been a wek today since I hade my op.  And have been to my gp twice as am experiencing following symptoms:
* Night sweats
* Hot flushes
* Loss of appetite
* Reflux
* And really bad concentration
* Sleeping so much

My gp took bloods yesterday t determine what my throid was doing but results wont be back until late tomorrow and i see my surgeon in the morning.  Gp has also looked at my incision which has one long stitch and he believes it's not infected.
I am so worried as none of this was told to me in pre op.  This is all really scary.

Welcome.

It's a bit strange to have your surgeon only take part of your thyroid when they had planned on the entire thing.  Hmmm.  Can you call the office to verify?  Often surgeons will plan on taking 1/2 unless they determine there is something malignant or suspicious when they get in there then they will remove the entire thing.  Maybe they took half, found nothing suspicious, then decided to leave the rest.  Interesting.
