What's can I expect?

My PCP sent me to a neurologist as I was experiencing intermittant Left eye blurriness, fatigue, migraines and a severe episode of vertigo all in the past 9 mos. I had a neck & head MRI.  Prior to this my PCP checked my TSH because it had been on a downward spiral but results showed it was still within normal limits. The neck MRI showed a 6mm thyroid nodule. I have an appt with my PCP soon to discuss the nodule. What can I expect? Biopsy? Thyroidectomy?

The MRI report says the largest is 6mm, so it's not quite a cm yet. So I get to wait to see if the little guy grows....~sigh~
But at least I found this site; it helps explain some of the things I've been chalking up to old age, i.e. short term memory loss, weight gain, fatigue, etc. Yhen again, maybe it IS old age lol

I thought anything bigger than 1. was an automatic biopsy.  That's what my doctor told me.  Maybe the ultra sound revealed some info that it was not malignant and that is why they are not doing a biopsy.

Many thanks KD9ER and AfricanGrey for your replies....It absolutely helps to know I'm not alone. My PCP (via phone messages) is saying no to a FNA - does that sound right? Reading other posts, I can see my nodules are much smaller than others have. Is there a generally accepted size limit a nodule reaches before a biopsy/FNA is done?

Hi Lori- I am in your EXACT same situation.  My ultrasound revealed a 2.9 nodule and I am having an FNA on the 23rd this month. My doc also sent me to a neurologist for tingling in my left foot and hand.  I still do not know if these symptoms are related to my thyroid.  I guess we can be nervous together...  I do know that a nodule does not mean cancer in the majority of the cases.

I really don't know much about the cancer interpretation.  I know some of our members on here have gone through that and I bump this to them for a better answer.

Although I'd be inclined to say the docs will def. do a biopsy no matter what.  An FNA is no big deal really.  It can be a bit uncomfortable as you know what they are doing, but it doesn't hurt.  I think it was knowing I was going to go through the FNA that bothered me more than the actual FNA.  

I really wish I spoke "Lab Report", but alas I do not.  :(  I really hope someone jumps on here an answers that for you or can help you out with that.

The report, word for word, says:
There are several small T2 bright foci within the right lobe of thyroid measuing up to 6mm at the posterior aspect of right lobe, nonspecific.

Most likely they will want to do a biopsy.

What did the report say about the nodule?
