Lose weight without thyroid meds?

I had 1/2 my thyroid removed when I was 18 yrs old the Dr called it a Goiter before removal he gave me synthoid 10 mg.  Since then I haven't been on meds and I developed numerous autoimmune diseases.  My question is I have tried numerous times to lose weight and though it was long and hard it would come off some but I can not keep it off.  Could this mean I need thyroid meds?  Or would I not lose at all even on a 500 calorie diet?
Thanks

Agree with all stella has said.

To add, a very low calorie diet will also further stress your body and put it into starvation mode, not to mention it is impossible to get adequate nutrition.

Minimum calories should be 1200 /day (with careful balance of protein, fats and carb), and add in exercise (with at least 300 additional calories of food for every 1 hour of moderate excercise completed).

Get your levels properly tested.  From what you're saying I'd guess you are hypo.

I can only assume your labs are not being read appropriately and your doctor may not be doing the right tests to determine good thyroid levels.

Do you have your lastest copy of the tests you had done?

Yes - it could mean you do need meds - espeically if you have had a PT
