I have hashi/hypo and have been on synthroid since April '07 with three dosage adjustments so far. I do feel "somewhat better", but I'm still not feeling like myself or well. My hypo symptoms aren't as bad as they were earlier this year, but I still have symptoms and often don't feel too good.
I did fell better when begining synthroid. I became hypo following TT and did not start serious synthroid therapy for 8 or 9 weeks followwing surgery. I've had many ups & downs with my quest for finding the right dose. I'm certain that when I do find the right dose the majority of my symptoms will disappear.
I'm desparate to hurrry up & find that right dose and currently lack the patience i need which is par for the course in regards to thyroid issues.

YES! Once I got on my meds I felt 10000 times better! I was tired, lethargic, lazy, worn out all the time. I was so down on myself all the time. No self esteem, no self worth. On top of that I had tons of hair loss, dry hair, dry skin, on and on. It took a few weeks but almost immediatly I got a boost of energy and started to feel like a real person again. I have been on/off meds for 16 yrs and never had it as bad as I did this last time..... so to see the big boost of energy really shocked me! I feel great aside from the symptoms from the goiter/nodules right now and hope that after my surgery I bounce right back!

Thanks for your responses! I am encouraged that it seems most do feel better - even if not perfect. I don't need to feel perfect - I'm not 18 anymore - but I was starting to think that I would feel like THIS or worse forever.
I have my test results in hand and an appointment for the 11th and until then I just wait. I have had a miserable escalation in my symptoms over the past few weeks (since my Dad died) and there are actually times I wonder if I will wake up after I fall asleep. I can hardly wait to get started on replacement therapy.
Thanks for caring enough to offer your stories - both good and bad. I don't want to be over enthusiastic and risk disappointment but I was starting to worry about the hope of ever actually feeling better.
I'm starting to really love you guys - just from reading all your kind posts.

Oh, yeah!! No comparison. Even have just started noticing this week that my hair insn't falling out any more!! YEAH!!!!!
Took me a lot of years to get mine regulated where it needed to be, drs have kept me very hypo b/c they didn't seem to know any better and wouldn't listen when tried to tell them I was. But now new endo and normal levels and thyroid is not a problem for me any more. When asked I always give thyroid a 9, b/c I don't think you can give something a 10 that no longer exists. =)
Hang in there and take the meds. Better times await!

Actually I am supressed bcz of thy ca and YES I feel better all around than before Synthroid!!!!
I haven't had to take any anti anxiety meds for PMS since starting the Synthroid and Ativan was taken for 5yrs on/off before my monthlies and that mysteriously disappeared ?????? I bet thyroid levels went wacko right before that time of month and now they are more regular than ever (the hormone thyroid levels that is).
I also just feel less up and down with emotions, etc., etc.
They figured out after the fact I was subclinical hypo ... many symptoms improved (inc. constipation) while now on the synthroid!

I feel alot better I am still getting alot of sleepiness but all the body pains are gone and the eeye blurryness is gone.Sometimes it just takes a while to get your meds tweaked just right. If the deepression is getting bad talk to your doc about and anti deepressant.I am bi polar and my ad was the only thing that got me through the hypo hell waiting for my RAI.In the meantime try walking for at l;east 30 mins at a brisk pace. this wwill help raise your seritonin level and help dissapate the deepression.Good luck

Also..not every feeling, ache or pain, is always from the thyroid. I am in a medicne-induced hyper phase right now. I assume when I am balanced I'll feel even better. But I do feel much better than I did.
I generally feel considerably less fatigued than I did back in May when I started on meds and the muscle aches declined a lot. I still have good days and bad days, but more good days now.
Pam's words are very encouraging. Unfortunately, I can't help because I haven't been on any meds yet due to waiting for the RAI (scheduled for the week of 9/17). I know that there are some out here that are still posting after they work through all of this, and are feeling quite well. But my thought is, people stumble on this site because they don't feel well and are looking for answers. Therefore, we're going to see the down side quite often.

Mary:
I do believe that once you get the right dosage of med's in your body, you will feel better. I am sorry but I am still working on getting the right dosage I had a TT on June 5th cancer and my doctor is still working on getting me regulated. I do have some good days but I also have some rough days, but on a good note the rough days are really not any where the way they were before the med's. I hope this helps some but it is my own experience. Take Care- PAm
