What;'s the deal now with Armour in 2013?

I have been trying to do my research about Armour now that my endo is letting me try a small dose. I hear there was a reformulation in 2009? So everyone has to chew it? But some say that the pills are soft now?

I have no idea what to compare my pills to, as these are my first. Is just swallowing it 30 minutes for breakfast fine? Or must I chew it WITH my breakfast?

I am seeing so many conflicting things, and my doctor is not much help. He has kind of left me in the lurch here.

Thank you.

Yes, I fully practice the art of daily grazing, better than eating on the run. Hungry as a horse, but eat like a moose. Always have.

Gotta go, its time for a snack.

No surprise there.  What else would a LazyMoose do but graze?  I would have never have even considered it being otherwise.    LOL

I did an experiment with taking Erfa sublingualy for months before a thyroid lab test comparing results to just swallowing Erfa and avoiding food for 45 min.

My FT4 lab went up a little (good) while taking Erfa sublingual. FT3 stayed the same. This makes sense as T3 will not bind to food protein, while T4 does. There is more food protein in an empty stomach than in a rinsed out mouth. So FT4 is likely to absorb more sublingualy. But this was Erfa, with dextrose ( a sugar) as a filler. Sugar breaks down more easily from saliva than cellulose (in Armour).

I even ate food repeatedly 10 minutes after I felt my sublinngual Erfa dose was absorbed. Once thyroid hormone rapidly gets into the blood via capillary action, food protein cannot bind to the T4. This works well for me since I "graze" quite often between meals, most of the day.

Try it both ways and see which works best for you.  Just don't eat "with it".

I think chewing will do no harm.  It may increase absorption.

I think many people do not like the taste so they simply swallow the pill whole rather than chew it.

ok, i will wait 4 hours for anything else that I take.

Now to chew or not chew? See, it's conflictiong lol I guess I could just try it to see, but I am worried it would not be a good idea.

There should be about 4 hours between taking thyroid med and other vitamins/minerals.

I don't think you should eat with it, though you could eat shortly after.

I thought I've read that ERFA is better for chewing or taking sublingly than Armour after the most recent formulation change of Armour.    I think ERFA more closely resembles the old Armour fromulation. But I could be wrong.

Yes, chewing it to help break down is said to help absorbion. Most Drs or Armour itself will not know this.

In 2009 Dextrose was removed in place of cellulose as a filler. Same as Nature throid.

The instructions just say " take before breakfast"

If I chew the pill do I need to eat with it? and wait awhile for other vitamins and supplements? I know iron and Birth control should be far away...but I take probiotics and cranberry extract.

Some people find it works better to chew the pills; I'm sure you can just swallow it, with water 30 minutes to an hour before you eat breakfast.

What do the instructions say?
