Feeling icky today :O(

Don't know what is going on with me, you'd think by today I'd be feeling much better, instead I feel drug down and beaten. Last night dh went and picked up a new pain med for me that totally knocked me on my butt and I think I slept pretty good (it knocked me that out!) so I am wondering if maybe the drug is just still in my body? It is a low dose of davrocet (I think?) and I tell ya, I didn't even have to position my neck to lie down to sleep! So, this morning I asked dh to stay home and get the kids off to school and stuff and then he just went in late. I have been trying to lay around, relax, all that but with the baby I watch (4 mo old) and the new puppy (grrrrrrr) it has been hard. I did a quick pick up in the livingroom and ran the vaccume (had to be done) and now I am just resting again. In a bit if I feel up to it I need to go do the dishes.... no one did them after dinner last night and they are piled up and making me crazy. I don't expect everyone to wait on me hand and foot 4 days after surgery, it is just stupid. I should be able to do basic chores and not be exhausted - don't ya think? Not like I am doing heavy lifting or anything.  Oh, the one thing that definatly is a NO NO for me though is bending over - serious head rush and headache/nausea when I do that one.... so I have been avoiding that.  I just want to get back to routine and feel better and I feel so lazy laying around all day. Ugh.  :O(   Sorry to whine, just feeling lousy and sort of worthless about now -

Oh you guys are so funny! I really really promise I won't over-do it! I am being very careful and taking things very slow. I have been napping 2 or 3 times a day, lounging around, having dinners brought in from Church friends.... lots of help. Honest to goodness I promise I will not be down on hands and knees scrubbing floor boards or anything! LOL!

I DID however, have hubby take me out for a drive tonight!! Just a quick 20 min drive across town to get OUT of the house, get some air, get away from the stuffy air and kids! Felt SO good! We ran to WalGreens to pick something up and I even ventured into the store with my hair a mess and my baggy pants and t-shirt! LOL I was only semi-self consious about my neck and it wasn't too bad. I think once the nasty dried up steri-strips and dried blood are gone it will be MUCH better! LOL!

OK eating some ice cream (feels so good) and going to take good drugs and going to bed! Nighty night and don't worry about me, I am being a good girl!  :O)

Luvs to ya!

Oh boy.....you know, you sound exactly like me.  You SO want your routine back, but let's face it...you're only 4 days post-op.  I know the surgery isn't THAT bad, but still - it's surgery.  I also know about things getting piled up around you and it driving you crazy.  I was non-stop picking up, just like I normally would.  I wonder if that set me back, though.  I ended up having to take another two weeks off from work, because I had a major set back after I went back to work.  Of course, I had some complications from the surgery too.  But please, please listen to the others on there and take it easy.  I loved Dac's comment about the dirty dishes and clothes having a party and inviting friends.  That's SO true!!!
Take it easy on yourself, and try to delegate some of those tasks.  Even if it isn't done the way YOU would do it, at least you won't see dirty dishes and stuff.  You'll be back to your old self soon enough and will be doing all that again soon.  Take advantage of getting some help!!
Lots of soft e-hugs coming your way!

(((((((((((((((( hugs)))))))))))))))    welcome home!!   Everyone is right- you're over doing it and unfortunately you'll pay the price by setting your recovery back. Rest as much as you can- no lifting including laundry baskets or over exertion( sp)  for at least a week. You're going to need your rest for recouping and adjusting meds.  Who cares about the dishes or crumbs on the floor- we care about YOU!!!!!

  god bless-  teresa

I promise I am not overdoing it!! If I get at all tired I slow down and/or stop and rest. I know with prev surgeries I could not vaccume but the Dr said nothing about it this time so I assumed it was ok? The restrictions were really more like "as tolerated" type instructions. If it hurts - stop. LOL I am being careful, I promise.  I did find that bending over is not a good thing at all though - major head rush and immediate head/neck/shoulder ache when I did that. I have not been hauling laundry baskets up and down the stairs, scrubbing toilets or anything awful. Just loaded the dishwasher a couple times, made my bed and ran the vac over the carpet a bit. I am being very careful!!! I think the meds are what is making me so loopy though - but that is ok because at least I am out of pain finally! I went all day Sat, Sun and most of Mon in some minor/moderate pain bc I just did not want to take the meds that made me feel sick - this Darvocet is a miracle drug I tell ya!!!!

HUGS and thanks for all the loves and good thoughts! I am being a good girl!

Well, one of the bennies I had from being in the hospital to have my TT for six days instead of the expected two days, I didn't have to do anything but let them poke me with needles and walk around hooked up to an IV pole.  It's been 9 months since my TT and I still have to remind myself not to overtax myself or I pay for it the next day.  Although your thyroid only weighs a few ounces,  having it removed is still major surgery.  So ease up on the housework!!!

It has been 2 weeks tomorrow for me and I have not done anything like that just havent felt up to it until yesterday I did do some laundry and cleaned my laundry room a little and I knew by last night I had done a little to much.  Just twisting and turning and doing other things, not that it hurt I was just tired and felt a little run down today.
DONT over do it, take it easy and enjoy these few days you will be back to the same old same old before you know it.

What do ya think you're doin'?  You had surgery 4 days ago!!!!  4!  Have never had thyroid surgery, but am not new to surgeries so I know that when you over do it you pay the price.  Big time!  Some how I don't think your surgeon ok'd vaccuming.  Am I right?  V's right the dirt doesn't go any where, neither do the dishes.  They just have a party and invite some friends over.  Think your family can handle some of this on their own without your help.  If they can't find anything to eat on they will do a dish.  They will not starve.  Know this from first hand experience.  My husband is absolutely NO help around here, but if he has to he can do dishes and vaccum, he had to do it all when I was pregnant with our son and put to bed.  They live.  And believe me clutter never killed any one.  If it did every one in this house would be long gone.  ;)

Take it easy on yourself.  Contrary to what we like to think sometimes we are not Super Woman only human.  Take some time for yourself to heal and try to deal with all it is going through now.  We are all just worried about you. So stop it! =+)  If you don't straighten up and act right I'm gonna come up there and take that 4wheeler away from you! LOL

I've not been thru the surgery, so don't have personal experience to share.  But from others on this site, and from a different surgery I had a few years back -- make sure you don't overdo it!  I'm sure it is hard to tell how much is too much - until it is too late.  I'm surprised you're vacuuming -- with the action using your shoulder and neck muscles, I would've thought that would be a No No.  And, watching a 4 month old!!! Holy cow, they're alot of work!  You definately have the right to have a pity party!  Don't do too much too fast either -- your family might assume that you're feeling 100% and give all duties right back to you.  Even though you're pushing yourself (we're all guilty of that - especially having to look at dishes in sink!) -- they need to realize you're still recovering.  Actions speak louder than words!

As for the pain meds - I don't have alot of experience there either, thankfully.  What little that I have used them, I do find that I'm still kind of worn out feeling and groggy - even well after the affects for pain management have worn off.

Here's hoping for a clean bill of health on Thursday's dr. visit.!!!

take it easy sis and dont rush things. you will feel better in a week or so. take your drugs and just relax. dont worry about the dishes. they arent going anywhere.lol Family finally figured out I wasnt going to wash them when they ran out of dishes. lol and I have a dishwasher too all they had to do was to load it! So no you should not do chores around the house. you just had your neck cut open.
get a coloring book ,watch a movie or just sit on the porch and heal. that s an order from an ex AF seargent. meditate on the golden healing energy surrounding you  and rest up.

Thanks hon. I know, I keep thinking "I should baby myself" / "I should feel better, don't be a baby" back and forth. Hard to know how much or little to allow yourself to do. Hate being a big fat pity party.... ugh.  I go back to the Dr on Thurs and hopefully by then I'll feel a lot better. I think these different Rx drugs are helping though - and that is a good thing. I should have asked right from the start for something different. ggesh!

Its only been 4 days after surgery, honey. In another day or two you should start feeling better. It can be the new medication sitting in your body still and making u feel tried still. I am glad that you got some sleep. I didn't feel 100% until my 6 or 7 day after surgery and that was with the set back that I had also. Hope that you feel better soon and back to your normal routine. Feel free to talk to us even if its just a to whine. We are here for you!
