What does homogeneous activity present bilaterally mean?

I was having numbness toward my left thyroid.I went from hypothyroidism to herperthyroidism.Went for a ultrasound results said texture extremely heterogeneous with vascularity normal. No Solid masses or cysts.Impression small heterogeneous thyroid without focal abnormality. Then had 123 uptake and imaging 6 hr 3.5 and 24 hr 5.3.Imaging reflects decreased uptake however there is homogeneous activity present bilaterally.Impression hypothyroidism. My appt with a specialist isn't till end of August and I would like to know what my results actually mean.Confused when ultrasound said heterogeneous and scan said homogeneous activity.

Heterogenous means that the thyroid is diverse in character.

Homogenous means it's all the same...

I'm not sure why the uptake and scan would have been opposite, unless things changed between the time you had them... how far apart did you have them?  How long between the time you were hypo and when you were hyper?

The impression, which is the result, says you have hypothyroidism, which means you have an under active thyroid - in other words your thyroid does not produce enough thyroid hormones for the rest of your body to use.

What other tests have you had done?  What about blood tests?  You should also have had Free T4, Free T3 and TSH tested to determine thyroid function, along with, hopefully, antibody tests to determine if you have an autoimmune thyroid condition.

If you have results for any of these tests, please post them, along with the reference ranges, which vary from lab to lab and have to come from your own reports.

What, if any, symptoms do you have?
