When your doctor called to tell you your TSH was too high, did they even suggest medication. I agree with mjmom that you likely need thyroid meds, but since TSH is affected by so many variables, I would want to confirm with additional tests. Specifically I would suggest that you call them and ask to be tested further for Free T3 and Free T4. Also, since Hashimoto's Thyroiditis is the most common cause for hypothyroidism, ask to be tested for the thyroid antibodies, TPO ab and TG ab. They should be able to accommodate you on this right away. Then you will have a much clearer picture of your thyroid status.
If you will get those tests done and post results and reference ranges shown on the lab report, members will be glad to help interpret and advise further.
I would call them back and try to get on something ASAP. I know the risk is higher if your thyroid isn't right but not sure how high they are. My doctor put me on meds before we started trying. Maybe they would call you in a prescription since you can't get in to see them right away. I don't mean to scare you but that is what I would do.
Good luck and congratulations
