Calcification in right lobe of thyroid

I am a fairly healthy 40 year old female...although I had a nasty car accident (hit from behind) so went to Urgent Care where they did a CT Scan.  CT Scan was normal for spine, but under the "impression" comments, they noted "There is calcification seen in the right lobe of the thyroid".  This was done a month ago and it just so happened that I requested these records to take to my Orthopedic and I took the clinical dictation out and read it.  What is this?  Calcification in the right lobe of the thyroid?  Is this absolutely nothing to worry about?  If so, it'd be great if someone could tell me that so I can put it out of my mind.  I tried to "google" it, but didn't come up with much

To both MJ13 and utahmomma - thanks for your help.  I will most definitely set up an apt with an endocrinologist first thing in the morning.  I hope the best for both of you.

I found a nodule on my thyroid through a CT scan too.  One of my sisters found a nodule on a chest x-ray after a car accident.  Talk to a doctor - you need a followup.  Ask for a thyroid ultrasound to get a better look at what is going on in your thyroid.

90-95% of thyroid nodules are benign.  Unfortunately for me, my sisters, and MJ - ours weren't benign but we were able to resolve the issue before things had a chance to spread.

Talk to your doctor.

I strongly suggest you go see an endocrinologist (specializes in thyroid disorders).  They are better equipped to tell you what is going on with your thyroid than a general doctor.  If you google thyroid AND calcification, you will be able to find more info than just calcification.

I had to have a biopsy of my thyroid and calcification was found.  I don't want to scare you, bu unfortunately for me , it was thyroid cancer.  This may not be the case with yours because everyone is diffferent.  But if calcification in your thyroid was picked up on a CT scan, it definitely warrants a closer look.
