Hey friends, I saw the replacement doctor today and I am cancer free thank God! I sobbed like a baby so the doctor asked me if I was ok I told him i was suffering from panic attacks and lots of anxiety. So he put me on Atavan 3x a day Lexapro daily and Ambien CR to help me sleep. So Any input on these meds will help thanks! You guys have been great!
Hey! It's ok! You are having a brain hissy fit...our poor old brains sure suffer with the chemistry of hypothyroid as it tries so hard to adjust to the decreased level of hormones from the thyroid.
It's very very hard not to give into it and just sit and cry our eyes out...yet some times that's exactly what we need... a good old cry...Helps release the hormones which have built up. I find if I am stuck inside after days of rainy cold weather I get worse... for me frustration sets me off too...so I have set itty bitty goals to try to achieve through out the day...and started taking Hypericum again.. St John's wort. After one week I am feeling much better. I did the antidepressants for many years but found they were not working.
For me I find being on here and having a good old weep and type to my dear friends, seems to make me feel better, as you said, who better to help than those who know!
It is hard, I know, but tick each day off and say, Yay! I made it!
Chin up and keep posting!
I have struggled with depression from hypothyroidism too; Stress Relief tea with Kava from Yogi teas is good to help you calm down, I've found. My boyfriend likes it too.
Don't give up; it will get better.
Thanks!! I hope I can get some rest and wake up doing better in the morning. You guys are the best! Who better to help than someone who knows how it feels right?!
Although I've never been seriously depressed, I have taken 5-HTP (found in most stores on the shelves with supplements) when I'm feeling stressed. I think the only caution is that it NOT be taken if one is on a prescription antidepressant. It does seem to have a mild, calming effect on me but who knows, maybe it's just the placebo effect. No harm in giving it a try.
I agree with Utahmomma. So many of us have also experienced this. The past few days I've been so irritable that I want to bite someone's head off, which makes me frustrated enough to cry. We'll get through this.
Find something that calms you. For me it's playing with the dog, coloring books (be a kid again), knitting, drawing.
We'll get through this.
Hypothyroidism is a very big cause of depression - the thyroid produces hormones and when they are out of whack they can make your brain chemistry go haywire (not to mention the added stress of the FNA). Talk to your doctor (or the doctor's replacement) about your symptoms. You need to be put on an antidepressant and soon, they can take up to 6 weeks for full effect.
Many (most) of us have been through it and it's nothing to be ashamed of. The only thing to be ashamed of is NOT asking for help!
Be well
