effexor xr and thyroid again?

Hello again. I was wondering how many people have complained of effexor (or any long term hormone affecting medication use) being related to thyroid problems? I have been on effexor for 5 years and then was dx with hypothyroidism. sounds like there are several possible reasons for being dx. with thyroid disorders but this one is most interesting to myself.  Do we or you really know the odds of this being a main cause? Any info is greatly appreciated.

I too take effexor xr 150mg-300mg for bi-polar II disorder.  I have been on it for 8 nyears and in that time, i have had papillary cancer in one side of my thyroid and now they want to remove the other half for the same reason.  i take levothyroxin also, and still have the hypothyroid issues even though my lab tests come back normal.  but the exhaustion is killing me!!!  and my hair is thinning!!!  I wonder if all this time my bi-polar has been hypothyroidism??

There are many articles on the effects resulting in hypothyroidism - Google it - you will be amazed

One recent post I did was the debate of this medication with the FDA stating it has no stability and dosages are not regulated right now.

There are a few of us on this forum who took or are taking Efexxor... I personally did not take the slow release but none the less now have no thyroid! I think the research is beginning to show a definite relation to the two. I think in time they will find that it does affect the thyroid directly and not just the dopamine receptors in the brain.
The thyroid is a bit like a filter in some ways and it would not surprise me my hypo then hyper states whilst on it Efexxor were due to that tablet rather than a true thyroid condition. I had to have mine out due to Hurthle Cell Adenoma. I kept being told I MUST have had radiation as a kid, but I never have! So, in my opinion, I do think there is a good chance of something going on with that anti-depressant and the thyroid.
Who knows! In years to come we might be able to do a class action and get compensation!
