Labs tests and why they weren't sent to me......

Went to my General Doctor appointment today and got to see the lab tests ( and Oh My God, no one had ANY IDEA why they were not sent to me (sometimes I think everyone here must be stoned on pot (hence Northern California!!))   I will definitely deal with the lab directly next time!

Most recent labs...(taken over 2 weeks ago)

TSH  31.49        lab range O.34-5.60 uIU/ml       that is DOWN from 6 weeks ago which was then 44.60

Anti-thy perox   169.0     lab range <35 IU/ml        that is UP from 6 weeks ago which was then 129.0

Free T4   0.5         lab range 0.6-1.6 ng/dL      that is the SAME as 6 weeks ago with a increase of T4 med.
also the same before that..???? not sure why with
three increases of T4  it would stay the same???

Free T3  2.28               lab range 1.71-3.71           that is UP from 6 weeks ago which was then 1.72

Dr. and I decided I will try 125 mcgs of Tirosint and stay with the same T3 dose (.... I think,  there was another stoney confusion at the pharmacy and the pharmacist who kept thinking I was asking for Thlenol/ codeine!)  Well, come to find out the Doctor  forgot to send in the T3 medication request!  oh, and they were out of Tirosint  till tomorrow.  Okay....what's another day.......

  I have been on a custom combo of 115 T4 and 7.5 of T3
Hope I don't get hyper from the increase. I am having another lab in 4 weeks to see where my Frees are etc, from the start of the increase along with  (at my request) Vit. D, B12,  selenium and magnesium and also dx thnordix's (what ever that may be??? any idea?....my doctor added that one)

And that's where we are today!

The mag test will falsely show elevated levels if you test with supplemented magnesium in your body. The next question........how long for supplemented magnesium to exit the body? - I dont know. Could goggle it.

Sometimes sore joints are really caused by tight muscle tendons pulling on the joint attachment points, not really a joint problem then. Magnesium helps balance out muscle chemistry, loosens muscles, which are out of whack in hypothyroid and fibromyalgia patients. Those people have a build up of lactic acid which is normal after muscle use and is supose to flush out in time. This does not happen in hypothyroid and fibro people like it should. Magnesium is food for muscle and nerve fibers and washes out toxins.

Another natural product that I have started on for muscle pain is Malic Acid in tablet form. Its what gives apples and grapes a slight sweet-sour tast, all natural. Malic acid changes the chemistry of lactic acid build up- the cause of muscle pain. The result is similar to Magnesium so far, but it does not interfere with thyroid med (no time 4 hrs from thy meds) and does not make you sleepy. About $10 for one month. Great to take both of these - so far.

LazyMoose, I believe it was something you may have mentioned about  sore joints and low magnesium? Anyway...I decided to start taking Magnesium and wow, the soreness in my joints have almost disappeared. I told that to my doctor today.
And asked if I could have that test added to all the other blood draws.
What I failed to ask was....do I need to stop taking the supplements before testing?

Since I live in a small town, I guess I could go by and ask at the lab.
And also thank you  goolarra!  I was diagnosed with low Thyroid when I was in my early Thirties....back in the 90's...back then they just said ...take this and see how you feel. Well, many years later and not feeling too well and then having early Menopause, along with improper dosages of T4...I think my body said   just kill the thyroid....so for the last 3 years it has been a night mare. but with the great help from this forum I am starting to feel hopeful!!

Magnesium testing.

The standard test they give is just called magnesium on the lab - and its more likely to show normal levels.

The more accurate test (they called to confirm my request) is called the red blood cell magnesium test or RBC Mag test. Most Docs never heard of it. I was at the bottom of the range on that one.

Whatever is going on, I think it affects the whole west coast...northern CA really should be part of OR and WA, no?  I'm in OR, and here labs can withhold results from the patient for seven days.  If you want them sooner than that, you have to go through your doctor.  My doctor always provides them for me the next day...what a bunch of carp.

TPOab is basically positive or negative.  Antibody counts vary wildly intraday.  Once you got 'em, you got 'em for life, so save yourself some money and drop that test.

You have Hashi's (I know I'm not telling you anything you don't already know).  Your thyroid function is going to continue to decline until there's none left.  Your FT4 is probsbly staying the same because you're just barely keeping up with the decline.

I don't remember how long you've been on meds, but many of us found that it took a while for conversion to ramp up again after being hypo, so FT3 levels continued to rise with no increase in meds.

"dx thnordix"???  Huh?  New one on me.  Perhaps it's the doctor's handwriting???

Considering that your FT4 is currently below range, I doubt you'll go hyper on that increase.
