Neck swelling

Hi there!
I'm a 19yr old female that has hypothyroidism, i'm on 200mcg of levothyroxine per day and have been on treatment for 2 years. Over the past couple of weeks the right side of my neck has started being painful around the thyroid area and now its swelling quite a lot also. I dont really feel any pronounce glands its just really the swelling around the base of the neck. I went to the doctors and asked him 2 take a look but he didnt even examine my neck and i had a scarf on so he would have been able 2 even see ... he just said its probably a bit of the flu and gave me some paracetamol. Since then the swelling has got worse and i dont really want to go back as if he's not going to even look at my neck theres no point!
Anyone have any suggestions of what it might be?
Thanks

You need either a follow up appointment demanding further testing - or take the advice above and find someone who will listen

You should consider blood tests of TSH FT3- FT4 and TPO testing. A CT scan could identify an enlarged gland and lymph node swelling.

You are on an extremely high dose of T4 .  T4 is commonly Rx'd to shink swelling and reduce hypothyroid levels - so you definately have something going on if you see an enlargement.

Definately get those anitbody tests done.

Hi,
When my throat first began to swell, my doc wasn't concerned at all, said it could be anxiety, or this and that.  A few months later, the swelling became worse, so I went to the ER.  The doctor there was super wonderful.  He listened to me, then had a CT scan done on my throat, and this was when my enlarged thyroid was discovered.

If you don't feel your doctor is taking your condition seriously, then try to find another or do as I did and visit the ER, and have them run some test.  Hope you feel better, good luck.
