My daughter is nine and born with no thyroid gland and had severe heart palps (PVC's) on Synthroid. Her Free t4 level was kept higher in the range on this medication, however her free T3 was very low in the range (Conversion issue). Switched her to desiccated (10 mo. ago) thyroid hormone (Nature-Throid), which has plenty of t3 in it. In doing so, it has unburdoned her body from the effects of having inadequate t3 available for proper bodily function, and low and behold, her PVC's and many other hypothyroid issues are no longer an issue! She is doing so much better now!

You should be obsessed with one lab - especially if you are having the heart palps.

That's the FT3 test and looking at magnesium as something that could be off too.

Obsessing over the TSH as what I assume is going on with your doctor because of the raise and lowering happening on your Synthroid is what shouldn't be obsessed.

Being under medicated or with a medication that is not optimally treating you will cause more issues for you down the road - hense - the speculation of now you have found nodules.

The TSH is the pitituary calling to the thyroid to release or hold thyroid hormone. It is a "part" of knowing where you are at but the real thyroid hormones that are right to the system are the FT3 and FT4. If you do not have the right amount of hormone supplying the body correctly - that's where you get the symptoms from and further complications. not the pitutiary TSH - but from the real hormones and gland - the thyroid and the FT3 and FT4.

You heard such bad side effects from what? Natural desiccated thyroid ? Armour? Who told you there were bad side effects?

NDT or Armour takes a little different approach with you as used in this as a treatment. It can't and shouldn't be used as a typical... "Here - take this and see you in 6 mths treatment.." It doesn't work that way and won't work for many if that's what expected.

This is a direct T3 hormone med with T4 - also ( T0-T1-T2 and calatonin)  This is a  direct natural hormone developed with porcine real thyroid and the ratios are somewhat different than the human body actually has. It's a bit of a higher form of hormone but you can adjust with it - IF used correctly and taking in small increment dosages with frequent testing when first starting..

There is no reason to have to start over with desiccated though. There is no GOLDEN drug to fit everyone's thyroid needs the same. Just adding Cytomel to your regimen of T4 could make all the difference and you could save yourself the starting over with the desiccated as you would have to do. Also with the shortage of this type of med you may not get it. That is hard to stop - once you start and are expected to change ASAP.

Ratio the labs of FT3 and FT4 - put that TSH lab aside and see where you can improve those frees. If all you need is a bump in T3 to make you well - I would think adding JUST T3 with Cytomel may  save you time to getting well again.

So for T4 synthetic you have only tried the Synthroid brand?  You do not mention other T4 's ever tried in the past. Generic Levothyroxin will have different fillers and easy to get / try. Not all brands of synthetics work the same for people.

A limited shipment of Armour 60 (the reformulated stuff) was available in some pharmacies a few weeks ago. Generic dessicated just called Thyroid may be obtained from some Canadian pharmacies online, that makes sense for those that know how much they need. You don't so that's a hassel. Nature Throid (US) say they will ship in Feb. There is always a few compounding pharmacies to make it -in the local yellow pages depending where you live. .25 to 1.00 a capsule.

I dont remember all the numbers of my last test but I know that my T3 and FT3 were in the low range of normal very low range.. if I up my dose of synthroid its stays the same but tsh drops which then I can breathe.

My heart palps I have had for years never knowing that I was hyper 0.69tsh for years no one ever tested it until I found the thyroid nodule!... my palps are better since my tsh is risen but when I go really hypo they get bad and when I hyper they get bad had the heart test those were fine.

Im tired of feeling like crap! I know that I cant push my synthroid level any higher at this point, i am teetering on the edge of breathlessness again and i dont what to do that again.

So i am at my witts ends I know to have ALL the test done which I do,  since I cant find a endo that is worth a dime, they all stink i found a new pc who treats the symptoms but he feels i am too obsessed with my numbers .. but I try and tell him I correlate my symptoms with my numbers so when Ifeel good or bad I know where my numbers should be.. so had them done 3 weeks ago just gota letter saying they looked good and my hashis is stable.

So i cant get armour anymore? i never takne it but Im afraid the T4 is just not doing it, its gonna take a boost of T3 to get me back but Im afraid of those meds, i have heard such bad side effects.

I see my doc next tuesday hopefully he will give me my numbers, see i got really hypp went into a bad depression severve health anxiety so he is trying to get my thyroid fixed first . my depression  had improved greatly with the stable meds but I still just not normal like I use to be! im feel like I will never find my way back to that way of life again since my partial!!!! my body is just way to sensitive.

I will post my new numbers when i get them ...

Oddly - heart palps can be confused with both conditions. You "could" be experiencing these because of your Free T3 is still low and adding Cytomel could help you stabilize. --- or you may be too high with the Free T3 - and adding more T3 may make things worse.

This is where getting proper labs and tracking them is so important with your symptoms.

Sometimes a switch to another med entirely is good - sometimes not. That also takes time - and baby steps.

Your last labs indicate a "total" T3 tests - from what you wrote. You need the Free testing to track things properly.

"my last tsh was 1.9  T3 2.6
dont have my current numbers I see the dr next week!"

-If you get new lab testing, include the ranges on your next post. Labs use different ranges. T3, specify Free T3.

You cant just go by the lab #'s alone, but most docs do. It has been some peoples experience that the small private medical practice hole-in the-wall-doctor is sometimes better at this. Ask before you make the appointment.

Cytomel T3 is usually paired (but not in ratio) with synthetic T4 like your synthroid.  If you continiue to get palps on your lower dose of Synthroid, I doubt cytomel will make the palps better, likely worse. But - we are all different, dont know till you try really.

Are you and your doc aware that Armour was reformulated this spring and Is hard to get now? You really have to 'get your ducks in a row' to stay on it now. Most have changed brands, and now those supplies are running low. Those of us that did, have stocked up on it. A compounding pharmacy cost more but most big cities have a few, they can compound  similar to Armour and put in a capsule.

Did you feel "hyper" with the 0 TSH. If this is when your palps started, it could take a while to go away. Actually just starting on any hypo thyroid med can give some palps to certain people.

So you have been Dx'd with hoshi since three years ago?

On synthroid all that time as well?
