Thyroglobulin Panel

I had a TT back in June 2009.   No cancer suspected or found.   Had my last blood work in January (TSH, FT4, FT3).   My Dr is now doing the 4 month follow up blood work and I noticed on the lab sheet that he is testing for TSH, FT4 and FT3 as well as a thyroglobulin panel.   I thought that was only used if cancer had been diagnosed.   Unfortunately my endo is out of town until the 10th and nobody in his office seems to know much.   Any thoughts?  Thanks

Thanks for the feedback.  I'm guessing that it's because we're coming up on the 1 year mark that he's doing this testing.   I'll find out soon enough if there's an issue.

One the thyroid is removed it never hurts to keep an eye on the thyroglobulin levels - whether or not there was any cancer to begin with.  It's just one more vial of blood so it won't hurt anything.

My recurrence was in my thyroid bed (the remaining thyroid tissue after the surgery) so it's still possible for the remnants to turn cancerous.
