OK,They wouldn't give me my results???

Went back to my dos office today to get my results... The receptionist ate the head off me AGAIN! I asked what my levels are and she said normal, wouldn't tell me the readings. I then asked her to print them off and she said no, she needed premission from the doctor. I nicely reminded her that I had TWO previous tests printed off with out a problem... After I said that she yell at the top of her voice, 'the doctor is busy, go away and come back some other time' .. As usual I backed down and went home crying with anger! I am in the process of changing doctors, will be seeing my new doctor tomorrow! I don't even know what levels Im at as apparently I must get promission off my doctor??What sort of Bull is that??? I know Im not right because my hair is falling out and I stll have majority of my symptoms! I just feel like dieing now, would much prefer it!Would be a lot less trouble to everyone!

I am branddddddddddd new to this system but really found the right place!!

I have struggled for over 20 years with a combination of problems and no one doctor managed any of the care.

What did I do? I FIRED MY DOCTOR AND DECIDED THAT NOT ONE MORE DAY WILL I TOLERATE IT ALL!

An example from my NEW DOCTOR? The range listed was .34 - 4.82 and I AM 4.32????!!! SHE SAID "WITHIN RANGE?" Since I am learning, unless I am completely wrong, ISN'T THAT A THYROID THAT BASICALLY ISN'T WORKING AT ALLL??? PLEASE LET ME KNOW AS I THINK I AM IN SHOCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WAY TOOOOO SLOW????????????? OR AM I WRONG IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION?????

Per your quote above

"Im really concerned about the hair loss Iv been experiencing."

That is an excellent way of approaching your issue with him.

If it helps - imagine yourself at the doctors appt as being on here - on the forum.

Pretending like you are talking to us - ( smilerdeb and me)  and that appt.

We hear you - so approach him like you are looking at us and talking face to face

Maybe a bit corney ....... but it may help too.

Now I gotta go "suck crow " at work today -- myself... LOL

Ya I do, it makes a lot of sense! The minute I said the word anxiety he said I think I know whats going on with you.... In my next appointment (Tuesday coming) Im going to use smilerdebs suggestion..  I think Id be happeir if he let me increase it even if it doesn't work but atleast Il know its not the thyroid then.. I want to try everything possible! As my doc. told me 'Be open minded'... Maybe I should use the same expression on him LOL.... Im really concerned about the hair loss Iv been experiencing the past few weeks, Hairline is receeding so i really need him to listen to me!!!

Ye all gave great advise and Im going to use it.. I cant continue like this so Il have to take control of it!

Cheers!!!

Sometimes trying to talk to the doctor without anxiety can be frustrating - then add the anxiety when it hits is even more complicated for us to explain our feelings.

Think about it on the doctors level. He isn't inside of you - he is NOT experiencing what you are inside. S/He only sees the "outside" of you and  cannot take  the steps inside you to take a peek at what you are feeling.

So you are left with "words" and "actions" to get them to listen.

If you walk in "panic" - of course - they are going to imply you need to de- stress and the answer is meds.

So as hard as it is - you have to go in an appt - like it is a "meeting" and not a doctor's appt.

When you go into a business meeting you are prepared to discuss the issues that are set - forth on the table for discussion - ( i.e. your health)

Being a part of a business "meeting" you are prepared to discuss the topics of discussions and you have done your research for that meeting to get your point across. Right??

We'll I see that the same applies - with a doctors appt. If you walk in there hysterical and jumping down their throat - they become defensive and professionally back away from the discussions and then sterotypically label you as stressed -

or "crazy" - as my past rears up here :)

This is so tough - especially when "anxiety " is a part of our symptoms and it takes all you can to not "lose it" when at the appt. We expect them to "help" - but when they see us out of control emotionally - then they look at it in a different light and no longer is  basing it as a medical situation with symptoms.

Some can read between the lines and understand the symptom - MOST can't - or do not want to.

Here is where educate and advocanting yourself is very important. You must not go in and say I don't feel well - fix me is going to work.

You need to be a team together and suggest options to better yourself to move on and feel well.

Unfortunately - this could fail too if the doctor is not right for you - or is a bad physician period.

So you also need to judge this doctor as an individual and how "well s/he will work for you and decided if that coarse of treatment they suggest is appropriate for you.

Yaa daa - Yaa daa - Yaa- daa

Do you get what I am saying?

I just want to know hoe to get them to listen to me... This anxiety just happened all of a sudden! Like a smack in the face! I don't know what to do...Why is it all so complicating!!!! It has improved from the start and I feel my meds have levelled off. I feel if I get a slight increase it might help more!!!! Am I just over reacting or am I onto something??

I have had drs want to tell me it is depression, and I know it is not. I know my hormones are out of balance. More than likely it is more than one gland that involved and when the thyroid is started with treatment, it makes the others, especially the adrenal almost shot down in some cases.

I know your pain and frustration. Believe me.

With a TSH of 2.41, it seems (like me ) that you are very sensitive to symptoms.
I have had a TSH of 2.0 and been great but when it rose to 2.3 I felt like the world was going to come to an end!
The anxiety was unreal so do know where you are coming from.
To combat the rise when mine went up, I increased my dosage to 62.5mcg 4 times a week instead of 3 times a week (spaced out) and it did wonders within days.
I am not telling you to increase but my suggestion would be to take the approach with your Doctor that you would like to increase and that should you go Hyper (or feel hyper) that you will go back to the original dose.
Basically trick reversal is needed.
Rather than saying to him ..'I want to increase my meds'.
I would be saying..."What do you think about me increasing my dosage and if I go Hyper than going back to the original dose? I really have nothing to lose?".
This way you are making the Doctor feel HE is in control but in actual fact...YOU are the one in control.

Just a thought.
Worked for me lol

Let us know how you go.

My hair falls out when the TSH is over 2.

My cholesterol dropped 57 points when my TSH went from the 3.5-6.0 range down to about 1+/-. No other lifestyle changes. Original PCP wanted me on a statin instead of thyroid med!

Don't know why it popped into my head, but after reading your blood test results, which were not what I expected, I wondered if your symptoms could be at all related to adrenal insufficiency.  This is an area I know very little about and understand even less than I know, but maybe some of the other members who are knowledgeable in this area will enlighten us.

Im not on the anti depressants, I don't want to go down that road, i don't see anything wrong with it but its not for me! Iv another appointment next week with him so Il explain it all to him, My hair is coming out now over the past few weeks! Im going crazy, being tired is one thing but going bald is a whole other problem! :(

If the anti depressants don't work.  It probably your thyroid levels.  If your doctor won't listen to you on that look at your Cholestrol levels if they are high ask him if you can get a trail of Synthroid.  If it lowers your cholestrol, they will let you stay on.  Trust me, "I feel depressed"  won't get you any medication besides anti depressants.

Good Luck, I hope you feel better.

Hang in there - we've all had our share of problems with the doctors.  I'm going through the same thing with my PCP too.  I see a new endo next week, so hoping that will work out.

Jennifer, I think you did the wise thing. As she is his wife, regardless of what you say, it will more than likely not change things. It WILL keep you from getting frustrated and other emotions that us thyroid patients have a hard time with anyway.  You saved yourself some grief in that respect, so congratulate yourself for that!

Hope this new dr works out for you. I hate to sound pessimistic but you might have to see more drs(as many others can attest) before you find the right one. But hang in there, you know your body more than any dr does.

Thanks for all the comments and help!
