Tapazole before thyroidectomy

My endo surgeon has asked me to take Tapazole 10 mg bid before he will do surgery as my TSH is twice the normal limit. My immuno assays are normal also.  I am hyperthyroid but feeling totally fine with no symptoms of hyperthyroidism.  I do have four nodules, only one that is of excessive size and the only thing that is functioning as it is hyperactive and producing the actual hormone levels.  There is a photopenic area below this nodule.  I am going to be having left thyroidectomy as soon as I can get my TSH to normal limits as the anesthesiologist won't do it otherwise.

My question is......has anyone taken this medication (which I am sure many have) and how did you feel when taking it - side effects, etc?

20 mg 4 X a day?? ok....I'll relax myself now. Doc just increased me from 5 mg to 10 yesterday twice a day. Nice to know I'm not killing myself.

I did start feeling better.  Sleep better at night, no hot flashes waking me up.  Good luck.

I was taking 20mg of Methimazole four times a day for a few months and didn't really notice any side effects.

If you are hyper now, it should make you feel better.
If you feel great now, it may slow you down.

Good luck with the surgery.
