ultrasound confusion

Ive been treated for hypo for years....went to the endo. last week cause of shortness of breath, swollowing issues and feel like my throat is closing. Had a ultrasound down ...it says....

Right lobe :3.1 x 1.5x 1.3cm {volume=3cc} extremeley heterogeneous
Left lobe :3.2x 1.1x 1.3cm {volume=2cc} extremeley heterogeneous
Isthmus 2mm AP diamater

Nodules:
1. Left midpole, 0.8 x 0.5x 0.4cm {volume=0.1cc}
Appearance: Nodule is stable and solid echogenic

IMPRESSION: Extremely inhomogeneous glands bilaterally without enlargement. Single stable nodule on left

What does it all mean?

Thyroid looks like a butterfly, there are two lobes (wings) and an isthmus (body).  He means that it kind of has different textures on either side, probably due to the Hypo...this can cause inflamation/nodules, areas that are more dense, etc. It is not enlarged, that is good.  your nodule is on the left side, near the middle, small and needs to be watched.  Really it all looks fine for now.

Went to the endo.to discuss my ultrasound results, he says he's not worried about it, he says most peoples thyroid looks like this. I'm just wandering if  I go with doing nothing or do I get another opinion. When I asked him what the inhomogeneous glands bilaterally meant he said its just not uniform, but couldn't tell me why it was like this..... I don't even know what bilateral glands thier talking about, I'm so confused. Is this a thyroid that should come out or do I just assume its all good?

Means you have a small nodule or lump, under 1 cm...it is solid, probably not anything to worry about, but you will have to just watch it.  When it gets over 1 cm you can have it biopsied.  You might think about being checked for GERD, that might be where you are getting the swallowing issue.
