thank you.  We decided tonite. (my son and I) that if the refferal didnt happen then I would go to the no presciption web sites and just order what I know is the dose I should be on.  Figure 100 synthroid and 12.5 cytomel x 2 per day.
That should be close to the armour I was on for 15 years successfully.
Since I don't have insurance it will probably be cheaper anyway.  Also found a place where you can order your own panels for checking your blood levels.
Thank you again for support.  Helps to have someone out there that knows what is happening.

All I can recommend is to call back the doctor you saw today and explain what they told you....  I know you are tired...... I've been where you're at......... don't give up.

You may have to go from one doctor to another; they each have their policies, but I'm sure you will be able to get one of them to "give in"..............

Praying for you............ keep trying.

thank you
the only test she ran was the tsh  that was .05 (see previous entry).
Good questions.  I just tried the referral and they won't see me unless there are chart notes from a referring doctor.  I said he gave me four names and said he would send things over
after I had an appointment.  She said they wont do that.
I am so damn tired.
Thanks for your support.

That's a bunch of BS ------- You aren't necessary hyper, just because your TSH dropped out.  Mine routinely runs at < 0.01, but as long as my levels of FT3 and FT4 are good (for me, not just on the lab sheet), we don't even worry about TSH.

No, you probably aren't going to die from the low dose, but you certainly aren't going to get better either.......

Please don't waste any time contacting someone else.  If you call the person, whose number he gave you, you might save yourself some time and agony if you conduct a short "interview" over the phone.  This can be done with a nurse -- questions to ask are whether or not the doctor tests FT3 and FT4, along with TSH; does the doctor determine dosage based on TSH alone?  Does the doctor listen and treat symptoms, above lab reports?

Would really be interested in seeing whatever labs you have, along with reference ranges, as the ranges vary from lab to lab, so must come from your own report.

new doctor said i wasn't going to die from low dose.  Said in 6 weeks she will take more blood and then adjust and then in 6 weeks do it again etc etc.  He said he doesn't follow long term - he is the one that removes the thyroid etc......
He gave me the name of someone else to talk to.
Basically told me to go home and deal with things.
my tsh was .09 on a range of .34-5.60.  He said that the heater doesnt' click on if it is too hot in the room and she was just turning off the heat  because my room is too hot.

oh well.

Wow, that goes from bad to worse -- 50 mcg cytomel X 2/day?  That's 100 mcg of cytomel/day......seems like that amount would send you hyper in a heart beat........ are you sure it's not 5 mcg cytomel X 2/day?

Make sure you take your med bottles with you to the new doctor.

I have my new appointment in morning.  Will post what he says.  I was wrong.  Just looked at my bottle.  I was on 50 mcg cytomel 2 x per day and 200 synthroid.  She dropped everything to just 25 mcg synthroid.  Feel like a zombie.
Getting nose bleeds now.  Will post the blood work tomorrow too.
Thank you for answering

Did I read that right? Were you on 25 mcg in the morning with synthroid, then 25 mcg at bedtime?  No wonder you weren't sleeping.  Cytomel is very fast acting - gets into your system quickly and is out again in a few hours.  You should never take cytomel after around 3:00 pm, unless you are a real night owl and have to stay up late........

She took you from 200 mcg synthroid to 25 mcg?  TSH is very often suppressed, when one is on cytomel or other T3 med; it's not a big deal unless you feel hyper.  I'm sorry, but that's just plain irresponsible.  She goes from one extreme to the other........ I'm certainly glad to hear that you have an appt with another doctor soon.......

Do you have any blood work, other than TSH?  Like Free T3 and Free T4?  If you have any recent labs, please post them, along with the reference ranges from your lab report, as these vary from lab to lab, so must come from your own report.

thank you.  I was given 25 cytomel one with 200 synthroid and one at bedtime.
Was not sleeping.  Had blood taken after morning dose and tsh was way low.
she took me off cytomel and reduced synthroid to 25. i have a total thyroidectomy and am freaking.  I know what too little will do.
Did find a new doc from thryoid association and am going in on 28th.
thank you so much.  Am splitting one 25 cytomel a day until then along with the 25 synthroid.

I agree with the others that cytomel should be split through the day, but that would depend on your dosage of T4 med (if you are on any).  Also depends on your dosage of cytomel.

I'm on only 5 mcg generic T3; I take my T4 med at 3:30 am when I get up, then take my T3 med (all in one dose) at about 7:00 am.  This pretty much keeps me going through the day.  Lager doses should be split.

Cytomel does not have to be taken on an empty stomach, however, you should not take vitamins/minerals or other supplements within 4 hours of any thyroid med.  It's also best not to take a T3 med too late in the afternoon, as it could prevent you from getting to sleep.

Split, morning and afternoon. It depends on how much you are supposed to take. Generally, 6.25mcg is a good morning dose...then the same in the afternoon. However, it also depends on how much T4 you are on.

Its best taken 2 X per day, as T3 med gets used by the body in about 4 -5 hours time.  First time with your levothyroxine (you take this also correct?).

Second time alone mid day, but not too late.

T3 pills can be split, although difficult since they are small.
