Sudden increase in TSH

Hi -

Nine months ago I had a routine physical and my TSH level was 1.5.  Last week my doctor put me on lithium (600 mg/day).  I had a blood test a few days later, and my TSH level was 7!  Could such a drastic increase be due to just a few days of taking lithium?  If not, what else would explain the increase?  There is no family history of hypothyroidism, nor do I have any systems.

Thank you for your help,

Lisa

Most definately.

Even through I have not taken this drug - When I was searching for answers for my disease - Lithium came up as a big no no and can cause permanent thyroid issues.

I suggest you google Lithuim and thryoid disease. There is a ton of information available. and great sources of questions to bring up with your doctor.

Take care.
