i highly doubt that the high antibody results are an error. the antibodies increase before the thyroid hormones become abnormal. i think what the docs told you is absurd. can anyone else chime in here?
his tsh, free t3, and free t4 were normal? do you have those results to post? is he seeing an endocrinologist? pediatrician?
i would definitely get him tested in, say, 2 months. that's just me. of course, i take my kids to the doc if they have the sniffles. but i figure, better to be safe than sorry. why should kids have to suffer longer if they can get treatment?
regardless of when he gets retested, monitor him closely. the anxiety you describe could be from hyperthyroidism. it's hard to say. keep in eye on his symptoms. if you notice any changes, take him in to get rechecked. if he doesn't get checked sooner, take him to get the scheduled labs.
hyper symptoms: anxious, hyper, loose stools, hair loss, sweaty/hot, lose weight despite increase in appetite/eating. uncontrollable emotions
hypo symptoms: lethargic, tired, constipation, dry skin, puffy eyes and face, gain weight/bloated.
I have never noticed any constant fatigue and he is certainly not hyperactive. The only thing I can think is that he is pretty emotional and does get anxiety over things that I don't think should bother him. For example, the other day he cried and wouldn't get on the bus. He has never acted that way before, not even on the first day of school.
His docs seem to think that he should be retested in 4 months and that the findings are probably incorrect do to his hormone levels being normal.
his elevated antithyroglobulin suggests autoimmune thyroid disease. are you seeing a pediatric endocrinologist? is he on any meds? what are his tsh, free t3, free t4? is he having any symptoms? tired, lethargic, constipation OR hyperactive, anxious?
i'm not familiar with how kids present with hypo or hyperthyroidism. i only know how i felt. if you think your son has a symptom out of the norm, bring it up to the doc.
i would definitely want more answers. i understand your concerns.
