Synthroid cause dizziness for you?

Hello everyone, I am new here.  I had a total thyroidectomy on December 6, 2007.  I was fine the first 2 weeks after surgery and actually had energy like I never had before.  But then my TSH started to drop and I was going hypo and thus my doctor started me on Synthroid.  That very first week of taking it I started with being dizzy.  I questioned my doctor, my surgeon, my pharmacist.  Everyone told me that there is no way Synthroid would make me dizzy until I met a customer at my pharmacy who had the same thing happen to her.  So now for 5 months since my surgery I am dizzy to the point of almost falling over if I turn me head too quick.  If I am counting bright colored pills at work on our white countertop my eyes do funny things and this feeling of dizziness get's worse.  Again I have spoken with my doctor about this to no avail.  I even tried, well more like begged my doctor to let me try Armour thyroid but I had a very bad allergic reaction and my tongue swelled to 4 times it's normal size, so I had to go back to the Synthroid.

Has anyone else experienced this and if so what did you do, or your doctor to help you with it?  I just cannot see living everyday like this and it's only been 5 months.

Thanks so much!  :)

Yes! I have been on it almost a year. I was hypo for about 5 months before I was treated I had just figured it was a result of my body finally getting some TSH, yet I'm a year into synthroid and I still have dizziness. I'm glad its not just me!

This is an old thread, and most of the participants are no longer active.  It would be best if you go to the top of the page, click the "Post a Question" button and start your own, new thread, where we can address your individual concerns.

Please provide recent thyroid test results with reference ranges.  Ranges vary lab to lab, so they have to come from your own lab report.

It sounds like you are under medicated or on the wrong meds.  How much Levoxyl do you take?

Did you have a TT or RAI?

Sorry, I hit a button I wasn't finished, my TSH levels were so messed up I had to go back to the Drs. Every other week for blood I am on levoxyl, my Doc said the was just at the border line so, we just have to watch it now,  he changed the level of my meds. Well, I'll tell you I have been dizzy, low body temp, freezing, nausea and in all the years of having this this has never happened. I think it' s the thyroid not the meds, I asked the do. What was causing my body temp to drop he said my thyroid / Tsh levels that's why we have to keep an eye on them

Its common after surgery to feel fine for weeks and then crash. The gland was removed but the hormones are still afloat through the body.

Being monitored only as a TSH thyroid patients has errors and without the gland present - regardless of surgery or RAI - the benefits of getting the free T3 and Free T4 labs - being treated on a symptom base level and adding in a direct T3 medication or a combo med could end this dizzy battle for all of you.

Get the frees checked and medicated on those labs - not the TSH.

I wouldn't notice. I'm dizzy anyway. All these years I had no idea thyroid could have anything to do with it. I just kept thinking I had probably been holding my breath or something. But I haven't become more dizzy.

DIZZY! I had my Thyroid removed about a year ago. Thought it was cancer, but turned out fine. I felt 10 years younger for about 3 weeks then CRASHED! I have been on Synthroid ever since. My meds were recently increased because my TSH level was low and have been dizzy and extremely tired ever since! Not sure if it's the Synthroid or new estrogen with testosterone I just started taking. (Had a hysterectomy 5 years ago and have .006 estrogen. Going back for blood work next month and am trying to see if it levels off.

Thank you very much for your reply.  :)  My doctor says that my TSH looked good and in the normal range the last time it was checked.  I guess that I need to wait longer and hopefully like yours it starts to go away.
