THYROID BIOPSY AND LAB RESULTS

I am not sure how to navigate this website yet because I thought that I posted a question, but I don't see it?  So, I will start all over again...Am going for a biopsy on my thyroid...the following facts were on my Ultrasound...I have been on natural thyroid meds for over 20 years without any problems till now...I have been hoarse intermittently for over a year and have had a mild sore throat for 5 weeks or so on and off...That's why I went for the Ultrasound...I have to be off all Gluten and Wheat products as I was told and researched that it aggravates the thyroid...Never had a problem with this stuff till I went off "natural hormones" over ten years ago...Then the problems started...I developed uterine polyps so I had to get off them..I am however on Estradiol vaginal cream a very low does...No progesterone or anything else related to hormones...That may be the problem, I don't know...Now for the findings as follows:

The thyroid gland is normal in size and echotexture...Bilateral thyroid lobe nodules are delineated...Color Doppler demonstrates normal thyroid gland vascularity.  Survey of the neck demonstrates no pathological lymphadenopathy on either side.  Multinodular thyroid gland with two subcentimeter left lobe nodules which may contain calcifications.  Fine needle aspiration biopsy and/or close correlation with follow-up may be obtained as clinically warranted.  (I left the measurements out of the lobes, unless anyone requires me to put them in)...

IS THERE ANYONE OUT THERE THAT HAS ANY ADVICE?

I am a nervous wreck waiting for this biopsy which is August 8th because the doctor is on vacation...

The ultrsound report has a statement about the blood flow within the gland but DOES NOT specify, if there is a blood flow detected INSIDE of the nodules (which is IMPORTANT) Also, whoever reviewed your images must specify the subtype of calcification found in the nodules. Micro-calcification combined with increased blood flow in the nodules warrant biopsy, but if neither, is present monitoring is required unless the nodules rapidly growing.

Hashimoto's thyroiditis is named after Dr Hakaru Hashimoto who first described this condition back in 1912. Thyroiditis is inflammation of the thyroid gland. Thyroid cancer is rare and the survival rate is 95%. I hope the  lowers your stress levels. :)

Red flag signs of thyroid cancer include: male gender, younger than 20 years and older than 65 years, rapid growth of nodule, symptoms of local invasion (dysphagia, neck pain, hoarseness), history of radiation to the head or neck, family history of thyroid cancer or polyposis (Gardner's syndrome).

Ultrasound results that may increase the risk for cancer include: hypoechoic; microcalcifications; solid content; increased blood flow; chaotic pattern of  blood vessels; irregular borders; a taller than wide thyroid nodule; absent or irregular halo.

I don't know if I have Hashimotos, but I think my doctor mentioned Hashis Hydroitis?....It is on the left lobe...which measures 3.8x1.5x1.6 cm (5cc)..Right lobe3.8x1.7x1.5 cm...I have this mild sore throat and intermittent hoarseness..No other symptoms...Am allergice to wheat and gluten which I was told aggravates the thyroid?  Also, a lot of STRESS!

I am a basket case waiting for this biopsy... Am going to two doctors...One before this test for an opinion and the other a top doctor who does alternative and traditional after the biopsy...Don't know what else to do...Sometimes these forums make me more nervous to tell you the truth...

We have members who are excellent with imaging, so I'll bump your question up hoping one of them will be on soon.

Do you know if you have Hashi's?  Most of us with Hashi's have nodules, and thyroid nodules are very common.  Often, they want to do an FNA if the nodule(s) are over 1 cm.
