My daughter aged 11 years recently diagnosed with hypothyroidsim. Thyroid profile reveals her TSH level elevated to 62.9 and T4   4.12. TMA test was positive with a value of 680. Doctor prescribed her to take Thyronorm-50 (Synthetic hormone-thyroxine) on daily basis. As told, dosage will be adjusted , if required,after another test after 8 weeks of medication. My question is can i start, medicine as prescribed . Can medicine has any side effects considering her age.can we stop taking medicines once the repeated test becomes normal in future.

She has no sympptoms except mild external swelling on her neck and this propmted us to take her to endocrinologist.

This is a hard call - especially as young as she is.

Our bodies especially at this age change ALOT as you know. I lean towards observing her situation before meds - yet on paper her lab is high - moderate high.

I think the meds Rx'd may be OK for her to go on - I believe - no research behind me here - but medicating something that could swing back quickly may be harder to do given the fact she is reaching puberty and meds may interfer with that.

Is she having symptoms - what brought you to getting her tested?
