Whats the healthy range for TSH

NGT
I am 28 years old female. I have a family history of Thyroid , my grand ma, mom as well as my sister has it. In the last year i gained more than 20 pounds and feel extemely fatigued and unable to lose weight with diet/little exercise
Doubting it might be Thyroid , i asked my doctor for a test , the result in the report said TSH was 4.280 while the healthy range was mentioned as 0.27 to 4.2
My doctor said its normal .
I need to know whats the healthy range for TSH . and is my result normal ?

I agree with the above.

Here is a quote from the aace.com website:

"In November 2002, AACE published revised guidelines that provided a new range for normal thyroid function. Until this time, doctors had relied on a normal TSH level ranging from 0.5 to 5.0 to diagnose and treat patients with a thyroid disorder who tested outside the boundaries of that range. AACE encouraged doctors to consider treatment for patients who test outside the boundaries of a narrower margin based on a target TSH level of 0.3 to 3.04. AACE believes the new range will result in improved accuracy of diagnosis for millions of Americans who suffer from a mild thyroid disorder, but have gone untreated."

The healthy range for TSH is 0.8 to 1.8.
Anything above 3.0 can give you symptoms.

Your result is high.
Your experience is normal.
You are "sub-clinical" Hypo.
