Who takes adaptogens?

With supplements you have herb and minerals, pretty self explanatory. Why is the term adaptogens used so generically?

Its not on the shelf of any stores. Its never descriptive on the net, WHAT'S IN IT? - and why don't they ever say?

People use adaptogens for thyroid and adrenal support, but could someone please elaborate on it?

Doing my homework before I try.

thanks

So there like homeopathic remedies........? Those little tubes by Boron in the rack at the health food store.is that the same as Adaptogens?

Looking for some for adrenal support. Take sea salt and vit C now, cant tell anything. I dont have cushings or addisons. Saliva test did reveal afternoon lows. But MD's are only concerned with morning cortisol - I'm good there.

Adaptogens are compounds that only "fix" things that need to be fixed.  One adaptogen  that I've taken for some time is Cordyceps; it's actually a fungus and is often used for energy.  A couple more are astragalus and rhodiola. There are more, but it's been a while since I've read up on them.

Adaptogens have been used in Ayurverdic medicine for thousands of years.  From what I've read of them, they "adapt" to provide support where your body needs it.  Unlike pharmaceuticals, they won't affect a part of the body that doesn't need help.

I did quite a bit of research on adaptogens a couple of years ago, but I've forgotten a lot of it. I do take the cordyceps daily. You can buy these in the health food stores.  Ask the clerk for adaptogens and if they know their business, they should be able to point you in the right direction.
