I had a total thyroidectomy in December 2008. The pathology report came back, and it said I had papillary carcinoma in both lobes, and my doctor refered me to have I 131 treatment. The day before the actual treatment, that doctor said he didn't feel it was safe for me to have the treatment because of the uptake he did. He said I had too much remaining thyroid tissue, and he wants me to go back to my surgeon and have more of the tissue removed before moving on the the treatment process. Is this normal? What are my chances of a cure now? Is this necessary? Can you explain anything to me?
