Ya know, with the weight thing. I have alot of water weight. If this would just go away. This is mainly in the feet and ankles. Maybe this is you too. I do take a 25mg water pill to help a little. Some days I too am not hungry or I get nauseated. I try not to eat a whole lot when I get hungry in the middle of the nite. My husband has hypo. Is only symptom is being a little cranky sometimes. But he has gained thirty pounds.
*AR-10 Hyper many times? I will read your journal.
Hi,
I started out hyper with 2 hot nodules and my tsh was 0.06. Not as low as yours but very hard on my heart. My rate stayed on the 110 plus area and they put me on atenolol.
In my case, I didn't lose a pound. I kept gaining weight but was never hungry. Now that I think I'm in hypo stage, I stay hungry all the time and has lost about 6 pounds. Everybody's body is different. My endo kept telling me that I should be losing and he could NOT get it in his nutty head that i wasn't eating much because I was not hungry.
In my case, my endo dr recommended the RAI treatment. I had the treatment in Dec 07 and I am still trying to get back to what some would call normal as possible. My synthroid has been adjusted once. We will see what happens when I go back on 9/9.
Please find a doctor that will LISTEN to you and what YOU have to say about YOUR body.
I hope you find an answer soon.
Take care and welcome to the site
Terri
I have been hyper many times.
It can be very hard on your heart.
My medical history is in my journal.
Not for months.
It can come and go.
If you have been extremely hyper consistantly since May, it's probably not thyroiditis.
IF you end up diagnosed with Grave's which is possible but not definite, then you can be treated with Methimazole ot PTU, which is a pill with a long name.
It will slow your thyroid down and your hormone levels will drop.
Getting in sooner is better. Good for you.
I finally asked my step dad and brother to get involved. I hate doing that but ya gotta do what you have to get anywhere.. They are both doctors. The endo wasnt gonna see me till sept 16. But they are going to put me in as an emergency.
So simple medication is all I have to take??? Is thyroiditis something that will go away by itself. Like the flu. Havent had any test except tsh... I had a gi dr. that thought I had celiac disease because my villi is damaged. Ive had all kinds of tests sinceMay. tested twice for tsh and bothe times were low numbers.
How long can you have thyroiditis?
That was my TSH level when diagnosed a couple of months ago. It took some time to bring the levels back to normal. You need to get your Free T4 and Free T3 checked (my endo also likes to check total T4). Antibodies include those mentioned above (TPO, TSI, and my endo has also checked for TBII).
You should ask your Dr to give you some medications while you wait to see an endo. With that TSH (whioch basically means it's undetectable) my guess is that your other tests will be abmnormal. You mentioned that you are having palpitations and while the beta blocker will help you really need to bring those levels down - my endo told me once that you need to think about it as if you're "burning your heart" and thyroid levels really need to be brought down to proptect your heart.
More endos here in the US are starting to recommend medications before making other recommendation (surgery or RAI) as there's a 50% chance of remission.
Good luck and call your Dr for some meds!
Have you been diagnosed with Grave's Disease?
Could it be thyroiditis?
Your TSH is very low, but not unheard of. I'm sure you feel horrible.
You need antibody testing, and a Free T4 and a Free T3, and possibly medication.
If you test positive for TSI antibodies the doctor might as well put you on anti-thyroid medication right now.
If you test positive for TPOab but not TSI, then it may be thyroiditis.
If you have no antibodies, then pituitary tests could be run.
A GP can run all of those tests with a flick of the pen and a good GP can look at the results and know what drug to give you.
If you can get into an Endo next week, great. If you have to wait three or four months like I did, DON'T wait.
Weird... I do have alot of swelling in my ankles and feet. For two days you can see my ankles and two days you cant their so swollen. I take atenol for heart palpitations. My family dr. gave me all this two years ago before we found out about hyper. My grandfather had his thyroid out 30 yrs ago. Back then they thought he was having a nervous break down.. He would cry all the time and shake his coffee right out of his cup. He is eighty now. He remembers everyone wrapped in plastic when they nuked him.
talk soon
Mirabelle,
You really are symptomatic. Try to research as much as you can before you go back to the dr. Find out what your options here. I don't have graves disease, I am hypo.
There are others here that have had ablation and others had surgery. Maybe they can give you some input on good search engines.
The thyroid journal is a good idea too. Try to eat protein foods as they take longer to digest and that might help you some as well.
You can't gain and I can't loose..not funny either way you look at it....ha ha ha
Peggy
Starving..I get up in the middle of the nite hungry...I eat lots of fresh tomatoes. Ive lost about 47 lbs since May. Ive been keeping track of heart. Ive noticed my heart skips beats. Sometimes my heart rate is 110/68 and as high as 130/113 last nite.
Very shakey, most of the things I eat go right thru me. Very thirsty. My eyes are okay in the morning but by afternoon hard to focus(blurry)
Thanks for replying
mirabella - I think the doc said surgery b/c ablation (RAI treatment to kill the thyroid) is risky to the heart in a person so hyper. Keep track of your heart rate for now b/c hyper affects the heart. It would be a good idea to start a thyroid journal. Are you loosing weight? Most people who are hyper are overly hungry but loose weight despite the hunger.
I thought I posted on the Dr. forum. Apologize
