hard candy-nausea etc. tips for RAI tomorrow?

does anyone have any tips for the best sour hard candy to suck on? also, how long /often is it useful? i have had a lot of nausea since my surgery and it has gotten worse--MUCH so since off cytomel. zofran is no longer working. see endo today after scan and am not sure what to ask for, since i have tried just about everything with bc chemo. lastly, the leg/arm pain is horrific. the biggest dose vicodin does almost nothing. again, have tried everything since chemo a few years ago. i am worried about being home, stuck, and this stuff getting worse, with no options. will ask endo after scan today, but thought i'd put out an apb! thanks so much. adele

i can still taste, so far, but i just got my dose of 100 mci today. i'll let you know if my taste goes away. my enc says it lasts for a few weeks. oh joy.

RAI effects the saliva gland which is the reason for a sore/dry throat.  Sucking on the sourest lemon drops helps activate the saliva gland to product liberation to the throat area.  The first to second weeks should be  long enough, if you need the drops at all.  We are not all alike, so some might need it while others need it longer.  I am going on 11 years and I still suck on lemon drops, even without a sore throat.  Weather seems to dry out my throat, especially when I keep my mouth open when water skiing, kayaking, etc. LOL!

The lemon drops help my nausea.  However I would ask the doctor what would be of help with your nausea so you can be ready and prepared during your RAI lock-up time ;)

Good Luck - you won't need it though, but its there for just incase.

I got lemon drops.They worked great.I didnt get any nausea.How much are you getting?.I got 75 millicures cause my cancer was small.
Be ready for your food to taste funny.I had mine on the 15th of March and my tastebud are still off.
it is rather anticlimatic  to take the pill after all the LID and hypohell to get ready.I just walked in ,signed some papers and took my pill.Even the isolation was not so bad.(there are 6 others at my house)

I was wondering, how many people with their RAI had problems with their taste buds?  I did not have any issues with the RAI (well very small dose for me 30mci) so I guess this would not affect me too much.  I bought lemon drops and my kids mostly ate them... darn it!!!!  :)   hmmmm......

I don't have exp. with RAI but wanted you to know I am thinking of you and wishing you the best of everything tomorrow with good results ..................this must be so different than bc chemo by a long shot I imagine ?? Stinks you got a double whammy but it does qualify you for the triple smile club ... LOL ... double smile is a joke on the board for Thy surgery / ThyCa and the third is when we are hit hard with "something" else .....
