increased value of TSH

I'm a 22 years old software engineer. My blood test report shows TSH level 5.14, T3 and T4 are normal. what does this indicate? and for how long i have to undergo medication? i feel tired even if i'v taken a slep for 7-8 hours, i'm prone to cold. besides exercise, what are other measures i need o take to reduce TSH level..

I have a similar situation. My yearly blood work showed TSH 4.97 and I felt tired all the time especially in the morning. Strangely I felt better in the evening. My doctor asked me to wait for 6 weeks and retest again. I am not sure I can survive for that long period of time. I had a deer tick bite 20 days ago and have a lyme screen coming up (have to wait for antibody to show up and it takes 6 weeks).
Me too a software engineer. The last few days are not productive at all. Hope you recover soon.

I had a similiar TSH to yours too a few weeks ago, but I keep swinging from high to low. My endo has said I have to wait for the TSH to go up to 5 and stay there and then I can get meds. In between I feel awful so I know how you feel. Are you already taking meds?

If you are on thyroid medication - it is hard to say how long you will be on them. The thyroid is something that almost thinks for itself and needs to be monitored constantly to see how meds are responding. Hypothyriodism can be a life long treatment - or can be put in remission too.

Watch you labs - it is important to see where they lead.
