Question

I had a partial thyroid removal in June 2007 for a follicular adnoma. I have gained 80 pounds since the onslaught of this mess, and have yet to be placed on medication ( I will be tested again in April).
Due to this weight gain, I see a personal trainer and experience nausea when I exert myself. My exercise routine is not more strenuous than before my diagnosis, but I now sweat excessively and become nauseated. Are these normal symptoms and is there something I can do to curb these two ailments? It's embarassing to have to rest 5 to 10 minutes during my 1 hour workout because I'm going to lose my lunch.

My levels were last tested in October. My doctor wanted to wait until the end of March or the beginning of April to check my thyroid functionality.
At last testing time, it was still at a normal functioning level. I still had swelling from the surgery, so the doctor wanted to forgo the next 3 month interval to ensure it went down so we could get an accurate reading.

When was the last time you had your blood tested?

Do you remember what the results were?

You should have your TSH, free T4 and free T3 checked every three months. Insist on it.

If you are put on meds, you should have the tests run every six weeks until your TSH stays somewhere around 1.0 (for most people).

Finding the correct TSH for your body is a little more comlicated than that, but 1.0 is a good place to start.

If you sweat excessively when you are NOT exercising, that may be a sign of Hyperthyroidism, or it may be from the extra 80 pounds.

I don't know what to say about the nausea.

An ultrasound before June would also be a good idea. I would ask for an ultrasound now, but I am getting a little test crazy with my own health.

When were your levels last tested?  I had a partial in Jan '07 and my other side stopped functioning after the surgery so I'm on Synthroid .. my big nodules were same as yours but they found two other small ones that were cancer so I am on the most Synthroid I can handle for Ca Supression along with needing it to live as other side went KaPoot.

Seeing your lab results, may be able to help you with ideas from people on the board, etc.

Also, tell your dr about all this .... I'm not sure ... Cheryl
