Transdermal Gel for cats is there one for humans

Methimazole Transdermal Gel Treats hyperthyroidism (overproduction of the thyroid hormone) in cats. Reduces the amount of thyroid hormone produced by the pet's body. Topical gel is absorbed through the skin.

A transdermal gel is a medication mixed with a special compound that promotes the absorption of the medication through the skin. This type of medication must be applied to clean skin that has little hair, which the pet cannot lick. It is usually applied to the inside tip of the ear.

Heh heh...I've got some pic's of cats on my phone i have to get around to putting on my computer someday. It's a photo-museum of attitude on display! :)

TGIF @ the thyroid pub, is that on med help or is that a Java supported link (or is it a separate board?)

Regardless, I'll do the difficult thing of putting it in the Google box and seeing what does/doesn't explode.

I've been neglectful of my friends about here the last few months. Busy on the road travelling to various gig's and whatnot. (I always say, I spend all my time travelling, but don't never seem to get nowhere! At least, anywhere fun!) :)

Yes we werethe only 5 star accommodation for years. The tv's go 24 hours a day and we have reverse aircondition. All apartments have double bed size minki rugs on the couches. Some owners joke that they will stay and the cat can take their holiday.
The George story is under the video section just click on the tag "Georges' story. bestest

cat lovers can visit my website www.****.com.au take a box of tissues to read my "George" story. The cat I care for with the jell tipped ears seems to do very well on the jell and so does the other kitty I am giving two tablets a day for the same things so who knows what dosage they are both getting but seem quiet stable to me. That is as stable as kitties can be....bestest

THANKS so much for stopping by!!!!  You are very funny and I have to let you in on a joke on thyroid just in case you have seen any profile icons bearing nasty cat faces ..... well, oftentimes we get very upset with our Dr's who don't listen or vary with opinions which make us seek out yet add'l opinions and finally we get so fed up we hiss as a cat at them and take our frustrations out on the community together LOL ... so, any cats that look nasty on the community are not aimed at you the CL of CATS!!!!

BTW, do stop by next Friday as you are invited to join our TGIF @ The Thyroid Pub where CL's oftentimes stop by and say hello to us .. it's a social thread intertwined with some thyroid stuff (woes of the week) but we have a cyber bar and bartender and quite a few laughs along the way .. but if you see a cat there, too, you'll know it is merely in jest!

Ah, I left of "Cat" in community leader. Don't want to seem like I'm trying to do a hostile takeover of the Thyroid Forum. The next thing you know they'll be calling out the troops and doing a pre-emptive strike! I'll have to put my Cat Army on standby...just in case!!!

The human form of this medication is called "Tapazole".  I'm not sure if they make a trans dermal gel or not.

I think if it exists it would be an issue of clearing FDA approval, but I'm not too sure. I haven't used any of the feline ones yet but it sounds VERY convenient.

The patches are a different thing, and I know they tend not to use many medications with a patch because they just aren't that reliable in dose administration.

Which about uses up my store of knowledge on gels and patches.

Ah, wait. I DO know if you tell your older brother to stick another nicotine patch on because he doesn't think the first is working, there's a likelyhood he will complain of lightheadedness and demand to be taken to the hospital.

At which point you get to laugh and point out how stupid he is for listening to you, since when have any of us siblings given each other advice that didn't end in our eventual embarrassment??? :)

I have often wondered the same thing about transdermal patches which are used for may kinds of meds, like birth control and smoking cesation.  It would be a wonderful thing to just replace a patch once a week or once a month instead of taking Syntrhoid every day!

I haven't heard about it but then again don't really know.  Actually, I will write to the CL of Cats who really knows alot and by chance wonder if he may know or know somebody who knows!

Great ? and WELCOME!
