Chronic Chest Pain for over a year - WHAT IS IT???

by Danielle_NJ, Jun 17, 2009 12:42PM
I have chronic pain on my right side (by my heart) which has gone undiagnosed for almost 2 years and no doctors have been able to diagnose me.  I'm a 28/female in great shape, eat good, and exercise regularly.
At first i thought it was heart pain since it was in that area.  I had a full cardiac work--up done (stress test, ekg, echo, etc) and they found nothing alarming.  Then it started to feel like it was my breast.  So i went to a breast specialist who found a complex cyst and then removed it.  My breasts are generally lumpy but she said that if it were breast pain it would come and go with my cycle and unfortunately the pain is always present so she told me to pretty much deal with the pain because she's not concerned that something is terribly wrong.
Then i had my pcp give me a chest x-ray, blood work, and an abdominal ultrasound - nothing once again.
I'm at a loss at this point........ can ANYONE tell me what it is or if they have similar symptoms and were diagnosed.

The pain sometimes feels like a stab, sometimes like a burn, it comes and goes, sometimes for minutes, hours, or days.  Occasionally it radiates into my neck, arm, or back..... some days are worse than others..... sometimes it feels deep, like my heart, sometimes more surface, like my chest.... sometimes i get a twitchy feeling towards my arm-pit.  My breast hurts if i push on it.  The pain remains loyal to my RIGHT SIDE. Nothing that i do makes it any worse or better (meaning, exercise, food, sleep do not effect the pain)... it has a mind all it's own.

The worst part is that i can't pin-point the exact location of the pain.... it's not like i can feel or point to an area.... it moves and it feels deep..... it causes me intense anxiety because i'm afraid it might be cancer or a tumor or something horrible..... the breast doc won't give me a mamo to rule out breast tumors becuase i'm too young and my breast is too lumpy.......................... what now??  a cat scan, an mri? any suggestions???
