Swollen Glands

by Shuzkan, Oct 22, 2009 02:25AM
Swollen glands behind the ears are often the result of an infection in the scalp.  This is not the case!  However, two weeks ago, I did have a small entry wound behind my right ear when my house pet cat of six months of age, scratched the same area with her paws and could feel one nail going in.  24 hours later, I noticed the right side of my lymph gland, nearest and just below my right ear, grew in size (feels more like a hard crystal marble and has maintained the same size since, small).  A local doctor recommended anti-biotics, dropped in size after my 1st two pills, but this little sucker persists to stay there for the long haul.  I am feeling great, no pain and no other symptoms to speak of, just a little discomfort, but this little rascal is a bother and a pain in the butt (jajaja).  Should I be worried?!?

Hi
Welcome to the forum!
A lymph node that swells in response to an infection or an inflammation takes some time to go back to normal size. This may persist for some time even months. If additional lymph nodes develop then you may have to rule out cat scratch disease (this is a rare complication and hence do not worry much). Otherwise the scratch will heal and the lymph node will be back to normal after some time.
