Blood test for levels needed before surgery?

I'm scheduled for a TT on February 5th.  I'm having this because after a FNA biopsy there is suspicion of cancer in one nodule.  I was also diagnosed with Hashimoto's which was discovered through the fine needle biopsy.  So, I have never had any blood tests done related to my thyroid.  I've seen different things on here about TSH, T3, T4's etc. and was wondering if I should have all of this tested before my surgery?  I am not on any medicine right now, because they didn't see any need to put me on meds since I'm having surgery Feb 5th.

Should the doctors have my pre-surgery levels of all these things before surgery?  Or, does it matter?

Thanks for your help!

hey joni65,
I'm going on Jan. 16th to meet with my doctor whose performing my TT.  I'm going to ask him what blood tests, xrays I'll have if any on the day of my surgery.  I know what a CBC and TSH is but what's a CMP, PTT and UA?
Thanks!

Hello
I had a TT 12/27/07 and did GREAT!  Hey what (utahmomma) said about getting muscle cramps or tingling after the surgery is extremely important to tell the MD or NURSE   RIGHT AWAY!!!     Just a few hours after my surgery I felt like my whole body had pins and needles in it and they gave me calcium right away and it worked GREAT!  Those parathyroid glands are very sensitive!  I take calcium with vitamin D two tabs with Breakfast, Lunch and supper!  It is a over the counter medication and does wonders!!  I had a CMP, CBC, PTT, TSH and UA  Plus Chest X-ray before suregery, but every surgeon is different!

Nope - 'cause they are all going to change radically after your TT.  So don't worry about all those crazy t-things until after your surgery then you will get to know TSH, T3, T4, and possibly Tg better than you would ever want.

Good luck on your surgery!!   Remember, if you start getting muscle cramps or tingling after the surgery tell them you want calcium *NOW* - parathyroid glands are as irritable as sleepless 2-year olds and they love to draw calcium out of your bones if they are angered.  Other than that, and asking for a smaller tube, you should have no issues at all.

Please post as soon as you can (we have a motto here - TT is no excuse not to post) and best of everything to you!!
