From my experience, please, please, do not take Thorazine. Any long term use will have devastating side effects. Thorazine seems to work exceptionally well, but they call it the Thorazine shuffle for a reason. Getting off Thorazine is equated to ‘losing your best friend’ or ‘losing half of your soul’. Thorazine will surely put you in an early grave whether you can actually get off it it, or whether you continue taking Thorazine because it is nearly impossible to take yourself off without devastating effects. I hope this helps.
I would say that Thorazine is not a typical first choice med for panic attacks, but that it may be useful. It is not associated with abuse or addiction, so I would think its use would be fine in the recovering addict/alcoholic.
I do know this drug has some unpleasant side effects but is rarely associated with abuse
I dont have experience with thorazine but I DO have experience with anxiety! I have had anxiety disorder for at least the past 10 years. I take xanax for it, but I havent ever had any abuse problems, and they do not get me "high", they just make the anxiety symptoms go away. I can totally empathize with anyone with anxiety as it can make you feel like you are doing to literally die!
Maybe you could ask the prescribing doc your questions about the med? I wish I had better answers for you, I just posted to let you know that you were not alone with anxiety outside of detox. Keep posting, it really helps!
Peace.
seems to me that any med can be addictive, even tho they will tell you it isnt, use it for a while and reduce as soon as you can, i have had to use some psych meds to get back to normal after a brutal (mentally) 8 months after detox. after 3 months with them im feeling much better, and take less every week.
i dont want to be dependant on a phamacutical company for anything.
