Possible withdrawl?

Ok so here goes my story, also everytime I've posted on a forum so far nobody has taken me seriously so hopefully I can get some real answers here

Ok I've been using nyquil for a long time now, maybe reguarly for 2-3 years and every single night for around a year year and a half now.

I used to start off taking a cup but for a few months now I've been up to around 3 a night which was around a bottle or so every 2 nights. I started taking it every night because I was going through a tough time and I wanted to get some good sleep as I was starting a new job and school. I started finding it impossible to sleep without it so I fell into a routine of taking it every night and just recently I went cold turkey and decided to cut it off completely as im sure my liver was damaged pretty badly by it( being as how I drink occasionally too and still took nyquil every night when I drank to help me sleep)

My question is is it possible im withdrawling from this? These past 3 nights that I haven't been using it I've felt horrible. I managed last night to finally get a few hours of sleep but I still feel horrid.

Im sweaty, when I lay down to sleep im shakey, I've been getitng real cold, my body is incredibly sore and the tips of fingers and hands keep feeling tingly for no reason at all. Also feel like im in a sick daze too and nauseous at times. I also haven't been eating as reguarly as I normally do.

Could this be because of all the alcohol in nyquil or possibly from my body being so used to having it?

Is their anything I can do to help me get through this less painfully?

Melatonin is a supplement, its actually a hormone that our bodies release naturally to sleep.  The supplement is a synthetic version of this hormone. I used it when I was detoxing. Get the sublingual kind, If I woke up in the middle of the night I would dissolve another one.

As far as your liver, it will heal. To help the process its suggested to take Milk Thistle, Garlic, and Alpha Lipioic Acid all of which are supplements that help detox the liver.

and you need to treat as so....you may be feeling it at work more due to stress..look for some melatonin at the walmart or vitamin store...if you are young and have no history of heart disease in your family that is good...if you have any abdominal swelling or the shortness of breath keeps up...get it checked out by your doctor...hang in there...WD is WD and it is never pleasant no matter what you were in the habit of taking...some people like my dad become physically ill when they quit smoking....keep moving forward and be safe

yes, you are definitely in withdrawal.  not as severe maybe as some of us have had to deal with, but withdrawal just the same.

the shortness of breath isn't too bad when im just sitting here but its def noticible and unplesant, when im at work its alot worse though, I've been having to take frequent breaks because I feel overly dizzy and find it difficult to breath.

As far as getting sleep I haven't been trying anything really. I've been up late watching movies and playing alot of games every night and just laying in bed trying to fall asleep to no avail

For sure...I am taking it that u r young but shortness of breath can be signs of other more serious conditions...although stress can cause a bit of it as well...breathe in thru your nose and out thru your mouth when u feel short of breath...like gtm says...follow up if this continues...there is also psuedophedrine, a decongestant in nyguil and I am not sure about how too much off that over time could affect your breathing passages...it serves to open them in the correct dose...and is also somewhat of a stimulant for many...just be safe and dont touch any more of that junk...k?

Keep a close watch on the shortness of breath. If it continues much longer, or gets worse, go to the Dr or ER.

Dextromethorphan (opiod like in nature but not classified as a narcotic) is the main ingrdeient to suppress cough in nyguil....I would not think the alcohol content alone would be enough to cause an alcohol problem even if you drank 1/2 bottle each night...the tylenol intake would be extremely high though and u r right to be concerned about your liver...anything we use over and over for sleep can make us dependent on it for sleep..even benadryl as I have known people that were taking up to 6 a night to sleep...Have you tried something natural like melatonin or valerian root...etc to sleep...It will be a process to get used to not using it to sleep and you may have an adjustment period...the tylenol content is 500mg per tablespoon and that is serious if you are consuming alot of it each night...what hev you tried to do as far as getting your sleep without it?

Well I wouldn't really say I have a problem with drinking as I may drink a 6 pack or two maybe once or twice a month when I go to unversity to hangout with my friend.

Hopefully the sweats and shortness of breath go away soon because I can deal with lack of sleep for awhile but the cold sweats and not breathing right sucks

DXM (dextromethorphan) is an opioid agent used as a cough suppressant. It appears that many share your problem with Nyquil. Stay away from it. I would venture to say that you are almost done with the withdrawals. Stick it out and be done with it. Try Melatonin for sleeping, up to 10mgs is safe at first.

yes, it is exactly whats happening.  It will take about 4 days to get over the sweats. the sickness will go away. it will take about 10 days for you to get to where you can sleep like you are supposed to. You are going through withdrawals. I think maybe a glass of wine would be nice or ease the withdrawal symptoms but not the whole bottle. This is as serious a problem as meds. I dont drink. But I do have a med problem.  They say wine is good for a person  I just dont think it would be good for a person who has a problem with drinking.  I would consult my doctor and tell him exaxctly what is going on. Have him help you but be honest with him and follow his instructions to the letter.  You might just get through this.

Well Nyquil contains dextromorphan DXM which is an opiate-like drug. Its can act similiar as an opiate in the brain. Its also used as a hallucinogenic by some addicts at higher doses. So its very possible to have withdrawal from it.

As far as things to help you get off it more painlessly following protocols for opiate withdrawal would be suggested. I would google DXM withdrawal.

Yeah I dont really have insurance so im trying not to go that route, id rather have to not take any medicine at all if I can become dependent on nyquil im sure I'd become dependent on a prescribed sleep aid, but if you get a chance to talk to her let me know
